Dear Parent, Another busy week in school! As well as lots going on, we have several staff members and children who have been poorly. We have had quite a few requests for children to stay inside at playtimes and lunchtimes – just a reminder that it is not school policy to allow this. Except in exceptional circumstances, if a child is well enough to be in school they should be outside getting fresh air. We do not have enough staff to supervise children in the classrooms at playtimes and lunchtimes. Thank you for your understanding. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, the children from Years 4 and 5 went on a trip to Barclays Headquarters to learn about coding- by all accounts they had a great time! Tahlia and Ryan in 5L have written this th account of Year 5’s day out : ‘ On Tuesday, 26 January, Year 5 went on a trip to Barclay’s Eagle Labs to do some coding and to create and invent. We all learnt how to use a type of code with a code bug to put an animation on it. Then we got to see a laser cutter and we got to choose a template and make a little gift for each of us. There was also a puzzle if you finished, and Ryan managed to do it. He was the first under 18 to do it! One of the best parts was that there was a roller coaster simulator which was so realistic. We had a fantastic time! Thanks to all the Year 5 teachers for arranging the event for us.’ Hot meals Hot meals can now be ordered for Spring Half Term 2 on Wisepay. All orders for the first week back after half term (w/c 22.02.16) must be th ordered by Friday 12 February at 10.00am. Thank you. While we’re talking about hot meals, our service provider, Forerunner, is recruiting General Assistants, Catering Assistants and Kitchen porters. The posts are for term time only, Sunday 10.00- 2.00, Monday to Thursday various hours till 4.00pm. If you like any further details, please ask at the office. Helping the Homeless Thank you so much for your generosity in your donations for our collection for the Homeless charity, Open Door. The School Council have sorted everything out and bagged it up, and it will be delivered to the charity later today. Icon of Peace This icon, which has been given to Pax Christi – a Catholic organisation dedicated to praying for peace and reconciliation, is currently doing a tour of schools and parishes in the UK. The icon was made in at the Monastery of St John in the desert, near Jerusalem. It symbolised the connection between Eastern and Western traditions in expressing the Peace of Christ. The icon is made up pictures from the Old Testament and the New Testament. We have been lucky enough to secure a visit from the icon next week, and your children will have an opportunity to learn about the icon and pray together with their class in front of it. We could like to invite any parents who would like to come in for a time of rd silent prayer and reflection to come into school next Wednesday, 3 February between 8.50 and 9.30. Hope you are able to join us. Uniform sale rd There will be a sale of second hand uniform on Wednesday 3 February in school from 2.15 – 2.45pm.

Birthday treats Whilst we do not wish to spoil any celebrations, please can we ask that you do not bring in chocolates for your child’s class, as many variety boxes contain chocolates with nuts in them and we have several children in school with nut allergies. As some parents do not like their children to have sweets during the week and we have a healthy eating policy within school, if you do wish to send in a treat please can we ask that it is just a small bag of sweets or consider a healthier alternative? Parent questionnaires Thank you to all who have returned the parents’ questionnaire. If you haven’t done so yet, please let us have them back by the end of the half term. Book Fair A quick up date on the Book Fair last week – thanks to your support and generosity we received £930.00 in commission which we have used to buy books for both the infant and junior libraries. Mission statement hero Our Mission Statement hero this week is the British Astronaut Tim Peake, who has worked so hard to achieve his goals. He said that he wasn’t nervous about going into space, because he had put so much hard work into training and practising for his mission. This ties in with our Learning Powers message of resilience and resourcefulness – never giving up and using things we have learnt before to help us when we are faced with a new challenge. Well done to all our stars of the week who have been working so hard to be the best they can be. Website update: We are going to start putting dates on the website in the ‘Calendar’ section. We’ll put important evening dates on there, but also add dates when there are dress-up events in school or the children have trips. Please keep an eye on the website, hopefully it will be of help. Thanks to Mrs Cox for taking on this job! February prayer calendar Many thanks to Mrs Prince for preparing the prayer calendar on the back of this newsletter. Dates for your diary: rd
