Transportation: Tour transportation will be provided by MAFRI on a first-come, first-serve basis. MAFRI staff from various regions will use vans to transport tour participants from central collection points throughout the province. If you are interested in this no charge option, please contact your local MAFRI office for more details. If it is more convenient, you can also use your own vehicle to follow along.

Pasture Tour

Regardless of transportation option, all participants attending the tour will be required to pay the $40.00 tour fee. GPS Directions : For this tour, GPS coordinates and times are provided for each stop. If you have a GPS, bring it along and it will assist in locating fields and stops. Caution: All sites on this tour are located on maintained municipal roads. Please do not travel off maintained roads regardless of GPS instruction.

Manitoba Provincial Pasture Tour Interlake Region—August 8, 2013 Start of Tour 9:30 am GPS N50.122,W97.735 All vehicles to meet at Meadow Lea Hall located approximately 6.6 km north of Marquette (corner of PR#227 and PR#248). Darren Dalrymple Bale Grazing 10:00 am GPS N50.181,W98.060 4 miles north of PR 430 and 227, 1 mile west. This innovative producer has used bale grazing to reduce winter feeding costs and effectively improve soil fertility and summer pasture yields. This site is also used to pasture calve 750 cows to reduce workload and improve calf health. Lake Manitoba Flood Fields 10:35 am GPS N50.182, W98.080 The flood of 2011 effected miles of Lake Manitoba shoreline. This stop will show the effects of long-term flooding on pasture and hay. We will discuss some of the options to rejuvenate and recover from the effects of flooding. EUR Ranch Sod Seeding and Water Pipeline 11:15 am GPS N50.310,W97.912 EUR Ranch has been an innovative Interlake farm for decades. EUR has sod-seeded flood damaged land and has graciously agreed to show the results and share the challenges involved in renovation of forage fields without cultivation.

EUR has also used buried pipeline with good success. This is an opportunity to understand the benefits and issues surrounding shallow buried pipelines for cattle watering.

Lyle Thorgilsson—Winter Triticale Field 1:45 pm GPS: N50.683,W 98.005 In an effort to produce maximum livestock feed, Lyle seeded winter triticale for a silage crop. Winter triticale is an interesting new option for high volume greenfeed. Timothy & Tall Fescue Forage Seed and Livestock Feed Fields 3:00 pm GPSN51.038, W97.402 The tour will visit Morweena (Arborg area) forage seed fields which are intended as a profitable cash crop. Livestock producers will see the benefits of this palatable straw/hay source for their winter rations. Alfalfa Phosphorus Ramp Demonstration 3:40pm GPS N50.906, W97.347 Alfalfa production in the Interlake is dependant on phosphorus supplementation. This site is part of a larger group of sites which helps quantify how much phosphorus is economically ideal. PESAI (Prairies East Sustainable Agriculture Initiative) 4:10 pm GPS N50.905, W 97.272 PESAI is an applied research facility which has forage and crop plots. A complete tour of the fields and facility is planned. Supper: At PESAI featuring Interlake flavour favourites catered by Broad Valley Catering. Restroom facilities available. End Tour 6:10 pm
