OPENING TIP • Mansfield hosts LeMoyne this evening in the Mountaineers final non-conference matchup of the season. The Mounties beat Pitt-Bradford 69-51 in their last non-conference game at First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium on Dec. 7. • The two programs have met during each of the past seven season with the Dolphins coming out ahead in each of those contest including an 80-37 win in Syracuse last year. • Junior Brielle Kelly is the Mountaineers top offensive threat averaging 13.1 points and 7.6 boards per game. Kelly ranks 7th in the PSAC in scoring and 8th in rebounding while ranking second in the division in field goal percentage (44.2). She has scored in double-figures in every game this season except California (9). • Senior guard Tianna Jackson ranks first in the PSAC and second in the nation in free throw shooting. Jackson connected on her first 20 free throws of the season before missing the front of a two free throws in the second quarter against IUP. Jackson also ranks second on the team in scoring 9.5 points per game while hitting a team-best 39.3% of her 3-pointers. • Freshman Bella Ricci has come off the bench to give the Mountaineers scoring in double-figures in four of the eight games this season and tops the team with 13 treys. • Le Moyne sports a 6-4 overall this season but has dropped its last three games, all against NE10 foes including a 74-53 setback at Southern Conn. In the last outing on Dec. 10.
LAST TIME OUT • Brielle Kelly scored a team-best 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds but it wouldn’t be enough as Mansfield dropped a 61-38 final at IUP in PSAC crossover play. • Mansfield outscored the Hawks 12-4 in the fourth quarter. • Kelly scored a game-high 12 points and was one rebound shy of recording her fourth double-double of the season. Battle added seven points with Ricci hitting two treys for six points. • Mary Kate Rumbaugh grabbed seven boards with Alyssa Mullins pulling down six. • The Crimson Hawks closed out the first quarter with a 10-1 run to lead 21-12. • The Mountaineers pulled within six points at 23-17 after a Macaiah Battle trey but Mansfield would only score six more points before halftime. IUP started to pull away and carried a 40-23 advantage into the break.
LOOKING AHEAD • Mansfield will break for the holidays before returning for a Dec. 30 PSAC East game at Millersville. • The Marauders are currently 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC with wins over Lincoln, Virginia State, and Seton Hill. • Last season Mansfield down Millersville 72-67 in the season opener before falling 68-45 in February.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL WHITLING Michael Whitling was named the next head coach of the Mansfield University women’s basketball program at a press conference in July of 2016. Whitling joined the Mountaineers after serving as an assistant coach with Gannon University women’s basketball from 2013 to 2016 under head coach Jim Brunelli. During that time, the Golden Knights made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2014 & 2015) and saw five players hit the 1,000
point scoring milestone. Gannon compiled a three-year record of 66-23 and made numerous appearances in the national rankings, sitting as high as No. 2 in the country during the 2013-14 season. Prior to Gannon, Whitling served as Brunelli’s assistant at Anderson University (S.C.) for three seasons. Whitling helped Anderson to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season and tournament titles during the 2012-13 season along with an NCAA Tournament berth. The Trojans also knocked off Division I Clemson 7265 earlier that season. Whitling got his start in coaching as a Graduate Assistant for Clarion University women’s basketball under four-time PSAC West Coach
of the Year Margaret “Gie” Parsons from 2005-08 before serving as the head coach of the Du Bois High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team for two seasons. The Knox, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Clarion in 2004 before receiving his master’s degree in Education in 2008. While at Clarion, he was a three-year letter winner for the Golden Eagles’ baseball team. Whitling earned All-PSAC Western Division second-team utility honors, recording the fifth-highest single-season batting average (.357) in school history as a senior.

LAST TIME OUT • Brielle Kelly scored a team-best 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds but it wouldn’t be enough as Mansfield dropped a 61-38 final at IUP in PSAC crossover play. • Mansfield outscored the Hawks 12-4 in the fourth quarter. • Kelly scored a game-high 12 points and was one rebound shy of recording her fourth double-double of the season. Battle added seven points with Ricci hitting two treys for six points. • Mary Kate Rumbaugh grabbed seven boards with Alyssa Mullins pulling down six. • The Crimson Hawks closed out the first quarter with a 10-1 run to lead 21-12. • The Mountaineers pulled within six points at 23-17 after a Macaiah Battle trey but Mansfield would only score six more points before halftime. IUP started to pull away and carried a 40-23 advantage into the break.
LOOKING AHEAD • Mansfield will break for the holidays before returning for a Dec. 30 PSAC East game at Millersville. • The Marauders are currently 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC with wins over Lincoln, Virginia State, and Seton Hill. • Last season Mansfield down Millersville 72-67 in the season opener before falling 68-45 in February.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL WHITLING Michael Whitling was named the next head coach of the Mansfield University women’s basketball program at a press conference in July of 2016. Whitling joined the Mountaineers after serving as an assistant coach with Gannon University women’s basketball from 2013 to 2016 under head coach Jim Brunelli. During that time, the Golden Knights made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2014 & 2015) and saw five players hit the 1,000
point scoring milestone. Gannon compiled a three-year record of 66-23 and made numerous appearances in the national rankings, sitting as high as No. 2 in the country during the 2013-14 season. Prior to Gannon, Whitling served as Brunelli’s assistant at Anderson University (S.C.) for three seasons. Whitling helped Anderson to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season and tournament titles during the 2012-13 season along with an NCAA Tournament berth. The Trojans also knocked off Division I Clemson 7265 earlier that season. Whitling got his start in coaching as a Graduate Assistant for Clarion University women’s basketball under four-time PSAC West Coach
of the Year Margaret “Gie” Parsons from 2005-08 before serving as the head coach of the Du Bois High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team for two seasons. The Knox, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Clarion in 2004 before receiving his master’s degree in Education in 2008. While at Clarion, he was a three-year letter winner for the Golden Eagles’ baseball team. Whitling earned All-PSAC Western Division second-team utility honors, recording the fifth-highest single-season batting average (.357) in school history as a senior.
