Mercersburg's Advanced Program for Global Studies (MAPS) is a two-year program for highly motivated students beginning in the upper middler year. Students must apply to be accepted into MAPS, which expands and goes beyond the existing Mercersburg curriculum. Combined with other academic and cocurricular opportunities at Mercersburg, such as the community service program and international studies and travels, the program allows rising upper middlers (11th graders) exposure as scholars in the areas of philosophy, ethics, political science, psychology, and extensive research and writing.
“S.E.A.R.C.H.” stands for study – engage – apply – research – create - help
A word from the director: All of us are very excited to begin the fourth year of MAPS. Our first MAPS ‘15 class (2013 – 2015) was a group of committed and strong students who set high standards for the classes to follow. The MAPS ‘16 class (2014 – 2016) set even higher standards and it was the first group of students for whom all MAPS requirements were also Mercersburg graduation requirements. The current senior group of exceptional MAPS ‘17 (2015 – 2017) students will, undoubtedly, also set their mark as an outstanding group of scholars and they will have to work diligently during their senior year to complete their challenging SEARCH projects. It is now up to our 11th grade MAPS ‘18 class (2016 – 2018) to begin their work in the TKB class and to set even more ambitious personal goals as Mercersburg and MAPS students. P. Kempe
