Presenters: Brenda Eagan Brown, MS Ed, CBIS, BrainSTEPS Program Coordinator Tentative Additional Speakers from BrainSTEPS Teams Description: The BrainSTEPS Summit was designed to refine information for team members regarding the education of children and adolescents with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and non-traumatic brain injuries. The training is intended only for team members who submitted applications and were accepted onto Brain STEPS School Re-Entry Consulting Teams. The BrainSTEPS Summit will bring together all Team Members to further build the capacity of our statewide BrainSTEPS Program. Focus will be on program developments, updates for BrainSTEPS concussion management, building individual team infrastructure, facilitating community outreach, increasing student referral rates, and management of the ORBS database. Best practices will be shared. Learner Outcomes: 1. Understand current BrainSTEPS trends and data collected to date 2. Share individual team accomplishments and struggles 3. Brainstorm with other team members to ensure the overall program is moving forward proactively 4. Identify areas of need for students they serve 5. Identify common concussion issues and what's working for this population of students 6. Learn how to formulate the Brain Injury Supports Framework for all referred students who need accommodation following an acquired brain injury 7. Review goals/objectives and strategic plan for their team for 2016-2017

Biography: Brenda Eagan Brown is the statewide Program Coordinator for Pennsylvania’s Brain Injury School Consulting Program called BrainSTEPS. She received her Master’s Degree in the educational aspects of pediatric traumatic brain injury from the George Washington University, where she now serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate school of education teaching. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and serves on numerous state and national advisory boards. She is published, regularly presents at the state, national and international levels and has received multiple state/national awards for her work in pediatric brain injury. Mrs. Eagan Brown was also chosen as an expert concussion return to learn presenter for the Obama appointed Institute of Medicine/National Research Council committee. Mrs. Eagan Brown spearheaded the development and implementation of the BrainSTEPS: Return to Learn Concussion Management Team Model which has trained over 1,000+ school district based concussion Return to Learn teams. She is co-leading a national Return to Learn Consensus for the National Collaboration for Children with Brain Injury (NCCBI). Most importantly, she has a brother who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury while they were teenagers, which is where her passion for helping families and students began.
