Delta State University will compete against five other teams. Bellarmine University, Drury University, Henderson State University, and Ouachita Baptist University will all compete in the men’s and women’s competitions. Missouri S&T University will compete in the men’s competition, bringing the total to six men’s teams and five women’s teams fighting for a conference title. THE BREAKDOWN The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen look to complete a dominant run in the pool this season and claim the teams first conference championships since the Ronnie Mayers era. The Statesmen claimed the 2003 NSISC Championship and the Lady Statesmen last claimed the conference championship in 2002. After the first four meets that included a pair of Division I schools and the defending Division II National Champions, the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen have reeled off five wins and a second place invitational finish to post 7-1 and 8-1 records, respectively. LAST TIME OUT CLEVELAND - The Delta State Statesmen and Lady Statesmen swimming and diving teams honored five seniors with dominating victories over Henderson State. The Lady Statesmen outscored the Lady Reddies 166-64 and the Statesmen topped the Reddies 154-88 in the final meet of the regular season for Delta State swimming and diving.
LADY STATESMEN TO WATCH
Dani Meerholz Freestyle/Distance Dani Meerholz is this week’s “Lady Statesman to Watch” for the Delta State Swimming and Diving. Meerholz was among the top performers for the Lady Statesmen in the Christmas Invitational and looks to solidify her spot for Nationals in March with another set of strong performances this week. Meerholz enters the weekend with top three times in the NSISC in the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650-Freestyle events.
The Delta State swimming and diving teams have swept their primary rival in the pool in the last three dual meets, dating back to January 2012. The victories also give the Green-and-White the Arkadelphia sweep in 2012-13, sweeping rivals Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State in all four dual meets this season.

Karl-Richard Hennebach Backstroke/Butterfly Karl-Richard Hennebach is this week’s “Statesman to Watch” for Delta State University Swimming & Diving. Hennebach, who has already qualified for the Nationals with an NCAA A cut time in the 100-Butterfly, has times in the national top eight in four different events. Hennebach enters the meet undefeated on the season in the 100-Backstroke event as well, making him a favorite for several events this week. PAGE 1

BIRMINGHAM BOUND Matthew Swaine and Conner Bennett got things rolling for Delta State at the Delta State Christmas Invitational, punching tickets to the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter diving on the first day of the event. Swaine and Bennett both smashed the pool record in an 11-dive format that was previously held by Jonathon Field, of New Orleans, with a 349.8. Swaine took first place with a 513.2 and Bennett took second place with a 475.2. Both scores were well above the minimum 440 needed to secure a bid to the national championships in March. EXPANDING THE RESUME Dani Meerholz broke new ground in the mile swim. The sophomore competed in the event for the first time as a Lady Statesmen at the Christmas Invitational and took first place with a 17:13.15, setting a NCAA B cut time and the 12th fastest time in the nation. Meerholz enters the NSISC Championships with top three times in the NSISC in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650-Freestyle events. More importantly for the South African native, Meerholz sits in the top 16 in the nation in all four events as well, with her best position being fifth in the 500-Freestyle

HENNEBACH UNDEFEATED IN 100-BACK Karl-Richard Hennebach enters the NSISC Championships undefeated in the 100-Backstroke this season. Hennebach’s biggest performance in the event came when he touched the wall with a 48:80 at the Delta State Christmas Invitational. The freshman broke the pool and Statesmen record with the swim, including topping Justin Whitaker’s National Championship time for the Statesmen in 2001. Hennebach has punched his ticket to nationals with a NCAA A cut time in the 100-Butterfly (48.00), also breaking the Statesmen record held by sophomore Vlad Zinca. Currently, the freshmen sits in the top eight in four different events on the national level, including the second fastest time in the nation in the 100-Butterfly. Hennebach’s 100-Backstroke time is currently sixth fastest in the nation. Hennebach is also sixth fastest in the 50-Freestyle and eighth fastest in the 100-Freestyle. LOOKING TO ERASE .01 Statesmen sophomore Yvan Nys turned some heads at the Delta State Christmas Invitational to close out the fall semester, putting together several strong performances. Nys also jump started a collective sigh from the crowd after one of the most dominating performances at the event. In the 200-Backstroke event at the Christmas Invitational, Nys won by 6.72 seconds and set a Statesmen record with a 1:47.50. However, Nys fell .01 seconds shy of the NCAA A cut time of 1:47.49. The South Africa native comes off a strong set of dual meets in January.

REACHING NEW LEVELS Lady Statesmen junior Laura Nichols enters the NSISC championships on a strong run of performances that has the South Carolina native in the top eight times of the NSISC in four different events, including the top seed time in the 100-Breaststroke. Nichols time of 1:04.52 set at the Delta State Christmas Invitational is also the tenth fastest time in the nation in the event, giving Nichols a chance at a National Championship berth. THIRD TIME THE CHARM Dan’l Murray is wrapping up his third season as the head coach of the swimming and diving program. The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen have had there most successful year since Murray’s takeover and the Green-and-White are looking for its first NSISC Championship since 2003 for the Statesmen and 2002 for the Lady Statesmen.
