Transitioning from MYFL to Middle  School • Transition to Middle School football begins in  the 6th grade in 2014. • There are a number of differences to note: – All players required to get a physical in the spring – $200 to participate, Payments begin by May 1st – Levels of spring and summer participation  increase – Practices are after school ends – Transportation to/from games is done by MCS

K‐12 PROGRESSION ‐ MARIETTA BLUE DEVIL FOOTBALL PROGRAM

Marietta Sports Medicine Team… • Led by Jeff, is made up of 20‐30 high school  students working as student athletic trainers. • Have a team orthopedic surgeon,  neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon, general  medicine physician, and dentist • Normally includes 3 Life University students  doing their clinical rotations.

Player Equipment • Marietta Helmet Makes & Models – MYFL – Xenith X2 Youth – Middle School – Riddell Revolution & Xenith X2 – High School – Multiple varieties

• Helmet Reconditioning – All helmets have been purchased in the last four years – Most manufacturers say avg. shelf life is 8‐10 yrs.   Marietta purchase ~25 NEW each year – Marietta reconditions and replaces all helmets more  frequently than recommended by manufacturers in  the industry

 

SAMPLE 6th GRADE Spring Practice Information          

          

 

1. FEES:  50% of your $200 fees are due by May 1.  This is $100.    Players must pay this fee before they will be  allowed to participate in Spring Practice.  Cash payments will be accepted by the coaching staff at any one of the  practices.  Credit card payments will also be accepted through our website.  Visit www.bluedevil‐football.com to  access the website and pay fees.  Players should be using the money they raised in the LIFT‐A‐THON to assist  with fees.      2. PHYSICALS:  All players must have BOTH an updated physical AND proof of medical insurance in order to  participate in spring practice.  The Marietta City Schools physical form MUST be used.  All questions related to  physical and medical insurance may be directed to Jeff Hopp, Certified Athletic Trainer for Marietta City Schools.   Coach Hopp may be reached at jhopp@marietta‐city.k12.ga.us or by calling 770‐428‐2531 ext 2508.    3. EQUIPMENT ISSUE:  Equipment will be issued for Spring Practice on Tuesday April 29 @ 6:00pm and              Tuesday May 6 @ 5:00pm.  Equipment will NOT be issued beyond those dates.      4. SUMMER WORKOUTS: Summer Workouts begin Tuesday May 27.  Workouts will be held every Tuesday and  Thursday throughout the summer.  Players report to the fieldhouse at MHS at 6:15pm and workouts conclude at  8:30pm.  Transportation is NOT provided for these workouts.  There are a total of 16 workouts between May 27  and July 24.   All players are expected to attend a minimum of 8 (50%) of these workouts in order to play.  Any  player who anticipates a conflict with this requirement is expected to communicate with Coach Burton BEFORE  workouts begin so arrangements can be made.      6.
