But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. 43

Mark wrote this Gospel (good news) probably according to the accounts of Peter, who was one of Jesus’ disciples WHAT: Mark wrote about Jesus’ life and how He served others. WHEN: About 1,955 years ago (~ mid to late A.D. 50s ) WHERE: Palestine, which is in modern-day Israel and surrounding counties
SO WHAT?
Jesus came to serve us. Think about that. Jesus, the King of Kings and God’s own son, came to serve us! The Bible teaches that we are all slaves to sin. But Mark writes to tell us the good news that Jesus came specifically to serve us by giving His life as a payment - a ransom. He died to rescue us from our bondage and slavery to sin! Jesus wants us to be a servant like Him. But Jesus is so much more than an example for us to follow. On our own we can’t serve others like Jesus because our sin gets in the way. But here’s some more good news; when sin gets in the way, Jesus is there to serve us. Because it is only by His grace and power that we can obey God and follow Jesus and be a servant of all! We can’t do it, but Jesus can!
