MARK HOLCOMB Mark Holcomb is best known for his crushing guitar work with the American progressive metal band Periphery, a group with an unmistakably heavy and modern sound that includes polyrhythmic patterns and soaring melodies. The band is considered one of the forerunners of “djent”—a genre characterized by high-gain, distorted palm-muted guitar sounds. Periphery released their self-titled debut in 2010 and their follow-up album, Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal, was released in July of 2012.
