HISTORY

PRODUCT

As a pioneer in its industry, Seiko’s first wristwatch, which also happened to be Japan’s first, was produced in 1913 and named, “Laurel”. Then in 1969, Seiko unveiled the world’s first quartz watch, the Seiko Quartz Astron, which was not just a landmark product for Seiko, but for the industry as a whole. In 2012, the company launched the Seiko Astron GPS Solar, the world’s first GPS solar watch. An innovative, refined development of revolutionary proportions, it recognises all 40 time zones on earth, and symbolises everything important to Seiko.

Established in 1881, Seiko has evolved with, and made significant contributions to the modern world with one innovative product after another. From the production of Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913, to the creation of the quartz watch in 1969, and the GPS solar watch in 2012, the company’s longevity and prominence have made it a household name. Seiko has also been the official timekeeper at numerous international sporting events since the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964, sharing privileged moments of tremendous excitement with athletes and spectators worldwide.

Grand Seiko — Grand Seiko is the pinnacle of Seiko’s achievement as a fully integrated watchmaker. It features a wide range of mechanical calibers, the celebrated 9S series, the unique Spring Drive calibre 9R series and the super accurate quartz calibre 9F series. All the Grand Seiko calibers have been created with the same fundamental aims; simplicity, high accuracy, legibility and quality. Astron — The most recent product innovation, the Seiko Astron, is the world’s first GPS solar watch. It requires no external power source and is entirely self-sustaining. It connects to GPS networks and adjusts with atomic clock precision, at the touch of a button, to all 40 time zones. Practical, and easy to wear, all it requires to deliver perfect timekeeping is exposure to light. Ananta — Ananta is a Sanskrit word that means ‘the infinite’. When the Seiko design team embarked on this creation, they were told that there were no boundaries. They were given infinite scope to build a watch that embodied the Seiko dream of “the most technologically advanced craftsmanship in the world”. They could explore any design direction and seek new inspiration wherever they chose. Ananta is the result: a collection that expresses Seiko’s dedication to infinite perfection.
