Review the book for any additional supplies and tools HOMEWORK….It is recommended to complete this before the day of the class to help ensure you finish the market bag the day of the class. Directions for the Market Bag are on page 83….. You will be making the exterior of the bag. You will not be cutting out all of the parts to make this bag in advance. Read through the directions in the second column to familiarize yourself with the information. Start at the top of the second column of pg. 83--Cutting. Take out the pattern pieces from the book and trace the main panel and the base onto freezer paper. Transfer all the markings from the pattern pieces as given. From the exterior fabric, cut: 2 Market Bag Main Panels and 1 Market Bag Base From the Soft and Stable, cut: 2 Market Bag Main Panels and 1 Market Bag Base From the pocket fabric, cut: 1 – 14” x 6” rectangle for zippered interior pocket **Do NOT cut any fabric for the lining. The exterior pieces will be used as a template for the lining pieces.
I will provide you with a couple of options for the double fold binding at class. You may wish to wait to cut these out. You will be cutting the scraps for the strip scraps in a few steps from now. Fabric Layout I opened up the 1 yard of the exterior fabric and folded over only what was needed (about 13”) to make one of the exterior Main Panel. I didn’t use the center line as my fold line….too much waste. I repeated this to make the second my moving down the length of the fabric. With the remaining piece cut out one market bag base. Next lay the soft and stable out so you can use the pattern pieces to trace 2 main panels and 1 base. Cut the three pieces out. 706 West Lumsden Road Brandon, Florida 33511

Next, go to the third column on pg. 83--Instructions. A) Make Exterior. Follow the directions for step 1. Baste the exterior main and base panels to the stabilizer using a ¼” seam allowance. Mark a horizontal line 4½” down from the top raw edge of the exterior main panel. Now you will cut your strips scraps 2½” wide. Review my note from the materials section. Use a variety of lengths from 5” to 12”. Follow the second part of the directions in step 2. Layout your strip sets to make sure each strip is longer than the width of the Market Bag Main Panel. Continue following the steps 3 – 5 attaching the strips to each panel. The last strip is folded up a ¼” before it is sewn in place. B) Step 6: Quilting the panels and the base—follow the directions for this step. Continue on to step 7. We will begin class with using the exterior pieces as template for cutting out the lining.
