To recognize excellence in architectural drawing, promote architecture in the State of Maryland and to build a relationship between AIA Maryland and the academic community colleges of the state.

EFINITION

Submissions must relate to a real, proposed or visionary architectural project. Hand Delineation Submissions include formal and informal hand drawings, including travel sketches, concept sketches, presentation drawings, elevations, sections, perspectives and technical drawings. Media may be any hand drawing technique used to portray or refine an architectural project. This includes pencil, marker, ink, water color, tempera, and collage. Digital/Mixed Submissions include the above plus models, xerography, computer generated drawings and various photographic processes. Submissions may be one drawing, or a collage of drawings/images on one page. Exploration and innovation in unique techniques are encouraged.

LIGIBILITY

Architectural students who attend and are enrolled in an architectural program at a community college in Maryland. The student must be the sole author of the work which has been realized exclusively in an academic setting and is derived from the previous two semesters work. A submittal may be from a student team, provided all the members of the team meet the eligibility requirements. The work can be a studio project, a competition, or a self-directed project. ACULTY

PONSORSHIP

Faculty sponsorship is required for all submissions. The student is to be identified and encouraged by a faculty sponsor who shall complete the Faculty Sponsorship Form attesting that the student has met the eligibility requirements listed above.

EQUIREMENTS

CATEGORIES • Student Hand Delineation • Student Digital/Mixed FORMAT Drawing designs will be submitted digitally. One entry equals one drawing; a collage of images on one page constitutes a single drawing. Designs which are the Award Winners will require a hard copy presentation in the scale at which the work is intended and must be in a form suitable for hanging. Include a one-page descriptive data sheet stating project description, requirements and design achievements (devoid of student/school identification) and a 100-150 word project summary for award exhibition and publication. ONLINE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Up to two entries per student or team may be submitted. One drawing (or collage of drawings on one page) equals one entry. • Each online project submission must be (1) a single TIF or JPEG image that is at least 1500 pixels x 1000 pixels with a resolution of 300 DPI or (2) a large format PDF File. Student and School name must not appear anywhere on the image. • Complete entry submissions must be uploaded to AIAMD's Dropbox located at http://dropbox.yousendit.com/PamelaRich1253896. Important! Also transmit each Entry Form, Description Sheet and Faculty Sponsorship Form electronically by clicking the "Submit" button on the top right of this page.

WINNING SUBMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR EXHIBITION Each physical submission must be 1) original artwork or high resolution print 2) framed on rigid backing with some sort of hanging device OR 3) affixed to foam core/poster for easel display [minimum 11" x 17" to a maximum 24" x 36"] Work selected as the winner or a juror's citation will be displayed at the awards gala in September 2011 and may be retrieved directly afterwards that same evening. Any works left at the awards venue will be returned to the respective school or taken to the AIA Maryland chapter office for exhibit.

The drawings will be reviewed by the same jury who will judge the professional submissions for the AIA Maryland Design Awards.

WARDS Award winners will be notified by email following the judging. Awards will be presented at the Design Awards gala in September 2011 (date and venue to be determined). Each winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the awards reception and ceremony (for the winner and one guest).

PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN HAND DELINEATION A $500 cash prize is awarded to the best student entry that embodies and celebrates the art of architecture as a tool for communication through hand delineations, sketches and renderings. Entries need not be based in reality, but must be hand drawn for consideration in this category. PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN DIGITAL/HYBRID MEDIA A $500 cash prize is awarded to the best student entry that demonstrates excellence through an innovative use of media. Submissions may be digital or hybrid mixed media with preference given to those that push the envelope of architectural representation. JURORS CITATION A $50 cash prize is awarded at the discretion of the jurors as they deem appropriate. These citations allow the jurors to independently select any student piece that they personally wish to see recognized.

REQUIREMENTS Friday, June 3, 2011 Entry Forms and Digital Project Submissions are due at the same time. A separate Entry Form/ Submission is required for each drawing being submitted (maximum two entries per student). Drawing entries must be uploaded to AIAMD's Dropbox located at http://dropbox.yousendit.com/PamelaRich1253896. There is no entry fee;. participation is open to all eligible students at no charge. UBLICITY RECOGNITION The drawing, photograph, and digital image of the winning project will be used for unrestricted publicity. Therefore, it is the entrant's responsibility to clear all drawings, photographs, and digital images included in the submission for future re-use and reproduction by AIA Maryland.

AIA Maryland will promote the winning designs through the following actions: • AIA Maryland Web site and AIA Maryland publications • Press Release to the local media
