Matching gift program What is the matching gift program? Scripps Howard Foundation doubles the impact of The E.W. Scripps Company’s employees’ gifts to educational institutions and literacy organizations. Gifts are matched dollar for dollar up to $3,000 per employee annually. I just made a contribution to the American Cancer Society. Will you match this contribution? No. This program is for educational institutions and literacy organizations only. What types of organizations are eligible for matching gifts? Scripps employees can apply for a matching gift at any time during the year. Eligible organizations include:  Pre-school; elementary and secondary schools  Collegiate-level, professional or technical schools  Two-year, junior, community and four-year colleges and universities and graduate schools  Any tax-exempt, foundation or association whose purpose is to raise funds, transmit gifts or sponsor programs for colleges or college students  Literacy organizations Entities must be located within the United States, be tax-exempt, non-profit, non-proprietary and be accredited or approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency, a state department of education, a state university or operated under public control. What is the minimum amount the Foundation will match for an employee gift? The minimum gift is $25. What is the maximum amount the Foundation will match for an employee gift? The maximum amount the Foundation will match per calendar year per employee is $3,000. Will the Foundation match more than one gift per year to my alma mater? Yes, as long as the gifts are at least $25 each and the total does not exceed $3,000 per calendar year. There is no limit to the number of gifts or entities eligible for matching funds, within the $3,000 maximum per year. If I want to make gifts to more than one educational institution, will you match those gifts? Yes, you can apply for more than one matching gift. There is no limit to the number of gifts or entities eligible for matching funds, within the $3,000 maximum per year. I wrote a check six months ago to an educational foundation but forgot to submit a matching gift application. Am I too late? You can still submit the application for the matching gift. Scripps Howard Foundation will match an employee’s contributions for one year from the date of the gift that is noted in the matching gift application. How long does it take from the time I submit the matching gift application until the Foundation sends its matching gift? Matching Gift checks are processed monthly and mailed to the recipient entity. If you provide your name and address on the receipt portion of the form, we will mail that receipt to you when our check has been sent.

I just made a $1,200 pledge to a local literacy organization. I’ve given them authorization to withdraw $100 per month from my checking account to fulfill that pledge. When should I submit my matching gift form? Before the Foundation matches a gift, the employee needs to have made the gift either through cash or securities. Matching gift forms for pledges may be submitted monthly, quarterly or after the final payment has been made. However, keep in mind that we must receive your matching gift form within one year from the date of your oldest gift. I am contributing to an athletic scholarship at the high school I attended and would like for the matching gift to be designated for the scholarship. Is that possible? No, we do not match gifts that are restricted to an athletic fund, scholarship or department. What else do I need to know about the program? Donors may make unrestricted gifts, or they may designate their gifts for specific projects, but may not receive anything of value in return.
