HOW MATCHLIGHT SUPPORTS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS Educational institutions are target-rich environments that are generally less well protected than many other types of organizations. With student and personnel records that contain extensive personally identifiable information, institutions of higher education are second only to healthcare in damages caused by breaches.

Matchlight is a fully private and fully automated tool that monitors your company information, alerting you within minutes of it appearing online where it shouldn’t. Matchlight’s patented fingerprinting technology allows you to monitor your most sensitive information without ever disclosing it anyone - not even to Terbium. Our large-scale web crawler fingerprints and indexes the dark web in search of your data, notifying you immediately if there’s ever a match.
How We Support Educational Institutions Matchlight is designed to detect even the smallest elements of your student and personnel records appearing on the dark web. Universities store large amounts of sensitive and valuable student and personnel information, including names, addresses, health records, payment information, and social security numbers. These records are often targeted by malicious attackers and sold or leaked on the dark web. Matchlight can monitor for appearances of student PII on the dark web, and send alerts when a match is found.

MATCHLIGHT Terbium offers three tools organizations can use to track the appearance of their data on the dark web: Fingerprint Monitoring, Retrospective Search, and Data Feeds. With Terbium's suite of products, organizations can privately and proactively monitor their sensitive information.
Fingerprint Monitoring Fingerprint monitoring is a fully private, fully automated alert system, like Google Alerts for the dark web. Using our patented fingerprinting technology, customers generate oneway cryptographic hashes of their data, and those hashes are the only information sent to Terbium. Our crawler is constantly generating analogous fingerprints on the dark web. Terbium sends you an alert the moment our crawler locates a match for your data. Fingerprint monitoring allows you to monitor student and personnel PII while still complying with FERPA laws.
Retrospective Search Retrospective search allows you to run fully private searches of Terbium’s index of fingerprints collected from the dark web. Search queries are fingerprinted in the browser at the time of search, and the fingerprinted query is the only information ever submitted to Terbium. Retrospective search can be used to look for information that could have been released in a previous data breach, such as student PII and financial information.
Data Feeds Data Feeds provide customers with a forward-looking solution to track patterns and non-sensitive information. Unlike fingerprinting, Data Feeds have no character minimum for key terms or patterns, and can support a full range of regular expressions. You can use Data Feeds to track all email addresses ending in “@yourschool.edu” without needing to fingerprint the addresses individually, or to track the appearance of marketing or branding information affiliated with your institution.
