Materials Management Memo

January 20, 2017

ISSUE no. 4 1. Plan ahead With the year 2017 upon us, it’s a good time to talk about our requirements and expectations at the Materials Management Facility and the importance of scheduling special projects in a timely manner. The more lead time you provide us with, the better we can accommodate your project material and the easier the job will flow for everyone involved. Good planning benefits everyone. As a hauler you need to be conscious of our handling requirements at the landfill. It’s much easier to make a phone call than to be turned away at the gate. We are always happy to provide you with the information you need. It is critical that you notify us, as soon as possible- IF: 

You know you are going to be involved in a major special waste project or large volume demolition project.

You secure a new contract and you know you are going to have a noticeable increase the volume of waste that you bring to the landfill.

Your municipality is planning a project that would qualify for the CIP program (as discussed in Issue No. 1).

2. Handling As a reminder, there are several types of waste that we accept at the Materials Management Facility that require special handling. This could be because it is a material that is deemed special waste as discussed in Issue No. 2. It could also be because the material has an approved beneficial use at the facility (alternative daily cover material), or because it has unique physical properties that require it to be placed in a specific location in the landfill, like wastewater treatment plant sludge or construction and demolition debris. This is all in an effort to work together to do the best job that we can with both the handling of waste and the diversion of those materials that we can prevent from ending up in the landfill. Good communication is critical and helps all of us meet our materials management goals.
