COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts of business mathematics, and to develop their abilities to apply these principles and concepts to solve practical business problems, particularly in marketing and in finance. This course includes a lab component. CREDIT WEIGHTING: 3 credits

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course the learner will be able to: 1. Calculate cost, pricing, and profit using ratios and percentages. 2. Calculate problems related to debt using simple and compound interest methods. 3. Calculate present value, future value, interest rate, time and payment using annuity formulas and a financial calculator. 4. Analyze debt repayment using amortization techniques. 5. Calculate the expected profitability of an investment proposal. 6. Perform calculations related to purchasing and retailing transactions. 7. Use calculators effectively and efficiently.
