Wonder By: R.J. Palacio Review by: Mrs. Reynolds, MVE Librarian It was love at first chapter with this outstanding book. Wonder was WONDERful! Auggie is a boy who was born with a facial deformity. His mom, dad, and sister, Via, are very loving and nurturing. Because he grew up having a lot of surgeries, Auggie was homeschooled. His parents decide that it’s time for him to attend middle school. Kids are shocked because Auggie looks different than everyone else. Some are nice and welcoming. Others are mean and hurtful. This is a story about a brave boy who tries to make his way through middle school. Along the way, he makes friends and learns to love himself. This is an outstanding book that helps kids understand empathy, or the ability to understand how another person feels. Readers will laugh, cry, and learn something about what is means to treat people with kindness. Always remember to be “kinder than is necessary. Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.” Lola Levine Drama Queen By: Monica Brown Review by: Lily Walters (5th Grade) This book is about a girl that loves painting and soccer.
