MARKET Sofap, one of the leading paint manufacturers of Mauritius, is an accredited licensee of Crown Paints Ltd, UK’s largest independent manufacturer of decorative paints. Sofap manufactures and distributes paints in Mauritius and the region under the Permoglaze brand since 1988. The company also holds the sole distributorship for Sikkens and Dynacoat car refinishes. Sikkens and Dynacoat are brands of Akzo Nobel, the world leading paint manufacturer. Sofap is also the official distributor in Mauritius for Chryso construction additives for the building and construction industry. Chryso belongs to the Materis Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction chemicals. At present, Sofap operates from a 4300 metre square factory in Coromandel which houses laboratory facilities for Research and Development and quality control. It also runs four up-market retail outlets under the “Inspirations by Sofap” identity and ‘Paint & Place’ identity. PRODUCT Sofap is committed to constantly deliver quality products and outstanding customer service to its targeted markets. It offers a complete range of coatings and auxiliary products developed to suit local climatic conditions. It manufactures and distributes paints under the Permoglaze brand and represents a whole range of products under international brands like Sikkens and Dynacoat (automotive paints), Earthcote (decorative textured coatings), Altex Coatings (marine paints) and Chryso (construction additives). RECENT DEVELOPMENT In line with its commitment towards the protection of the environment, Sofap has aligned its products to the latest European directives in terms of VOC content and recently introduced new water-based ecological paints namely Aqua Gloss and Aqua Lasure as alternatives to the traditional solvent-based products. Other ecological products introduced are Permokidz, a waterbased paint formulated for children’s room 64
and Xtreme Clean a water-based paint with excellent washability. Other new products like Magic Feeling, Grains of Art and Sandy Expressions are part of the innovative
“Permoglaze Tradition” and offer traditional textured finishes whilst integrating the latest technology.
ACHIEVEMENT The company is committed to quality in all aspects of its business and has been accredited ISO 9001 since 1995. Subsequently, in 2009 the company integrated the latest version of the standard namely ISO 9001: 2008 by effectively fulfilling and respecting its commitments to quality. The protection of the environment also holds an important position on the strategic agenda of the company. In order to create the necessary framework to achieve its ambition towards environment protection, Sofap implemented the ISO 14001: 2004 environmental management standard and obtained certification in February 2010.
