Game Time After posting its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series victory last weekend, Manhattan (14-28; 7-11 MAAC) hosts Rider (21-17; 9-3 MAAC) in the final home series of the year. Action begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 at 2 p.m. before concluding with a single game on Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m. Senior Day Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader, the Jasper baseball program will recognize its seven graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony starting at 1:35 p.m. Sean Abbate, Chris Kalousdian, Mike Martin, Joe McClennan, Scott McClennan, Mikey Miranda and Vin Teixeira will all be recognized for their contributions to the program. Last Weekend Against Niagara After dropping the opener to Niagara, Manhattan rallied to take the final two games in decisive fashion while staying in the race for a MAAC playoff berth. Junior Christian Santisteban led the way on offense, batting .500 (4-for-8) with three doubles, two runs, two RBI and four walks. Santisteban Slugging On the year, Santisteban leads the team in average (.284), doubles (12), triples (2), home runs (2), slugging (.440), walks (24) and OBP (.391). History Lesson The series victory came on the heels of being swept at Siena, marking the second-straight time that the Jaspers have rebounded with a series win after being swept. The Best Around Sophomore LHP Joe Jacques fired a 7.0-inning, eighth-strikeout complete game shutout in leading Manhattan to a 7-0 win in game two en route to winning MAAC Pitcher of the Week accolades. Jacques, who had a no-hitter until the sixth inning and retired 13-straight at one point, is 2-1 on the year with 33 strikeouts and a 4.06 ERA over 31.0 innings of action. Manhattan’s Last MAAC Shutout ... Was recorded by Jacques, who tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in the Jaspers’ 2-0 win over Saint Peter’s a year ago. Seven-Inning Scott RHP Scott McClennan clinched the series victory over Niagara with a solid 7.0-inning, three-strikeout performance while walking just one and is a perfect 3-0 this year when working at least seven innings. On the season, he is 3-6 with team-highs in strikeouts (42) and innings (57.0). Now That’s A Comeback! Manhattan toppled local-rival Fordham by a 14-13 count this past Tuesday while overcoming an eight-run deficit thanks to a ninerun seventh inning at Dutchess Stadium. The Jaspers notched a season-high 14 runs, 14 hits, 13 RBI and 11 walks in arguably the finest offensive effort of the season. Midweek Mike Martin earned the win against Fordham and notched the last two midweek victories for the Jaspers. On the year, he is 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a team-low 3.43 ERA over 21.0 innings out of the bullpen. Freshman In Name Only Freshman LHP Tom Cosgrove has assumed the game-one starting slot for Manhattan and struck out six over 6.0 innings of two-run ball last weekend against Niagara. He has gone at least six innings in each of his last four starts with 20 strikeouts, against just four walks, while posting a 2.16 ERA and limiting the opposition to a .250 average. M.S.=Closing It Out Maybe it has something to do with the initials but Matt Simonetti and Michael Scarinci have closed out the last two Jasper wins with Simonetti working a scoreless ninth against Fordham while Scarinci earned a 2.0-inning save against Niagara. Simonetti has a team-leading three saves with 16 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA over 24.0 innings. Kalousdian Keeps Mashing Kalousdian is playing like a senior that doesn’t want his career to end, having hit safely in 15-straight games and 19-of-21 with 14 multi-hit games. During the 21-game sample, Kalousdian is hitting .409 (36-for-88) with 17 runs, seven extra-base hits, 12 RBI and five stolen bases. On the year, he is batting .280 with a team-leading 30 runs, 46 hits and 17 multi-hit games. Run Machine Over his last seven games, Joe McClennan is batting .375 with nine RBI and eight runs and four multi-hit performances. On the year, he is batting .266 with five doubles, two triples and two home runs while recording a team-high 28 RBI. The Trio ... Kalousdian, McClennan and Santisteban are all hitting above .300 during MAAC play while combining to notch 48.1 percent of Manhattan’s hits during MAAC play. Miranda Heating Up Miranda has hit safely in five of his last six games, batting .368 (7-for-19) during that time and notched a season-high three hits in the win over Fordham. Bisset, Forlow Providing A Spark Freshman Brendan Bisset and Matt Forlow are providing a spark at the top of the line-up after slow starts. Bisset has hit safely in four-straight and is batting .327 (16-for-49) over his last 15 games after starting his collegiate career 0-for-7 at the plate. Forlow, meanwhile, is hitting .352 (19-for-54) over his last 17 games with 10 runs and a .446 OBP after starting out just 2-for-25. Back-To-Back After notching multiple-hits just once in his first 32 games, freshman Michael Pfenninger notched multiple-hit performances in back-to-back games in wins over Niagara and Fordham. Double Machine After failing to record a two-bagger in 2014, Teixeira has crushed 11 doubles this season. He clubbed two more doubles en route to notching five RBI in a doubleheader sweep of NYIT. He also helped Manhattan to its two most recent MAAC wins with a two-run double in a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Quinnipiac after notching the eventual game-winning two-run double in a 3-2 triumph vs. Marist. Last Nine Teixeira has 10 RBI in his last nine games after notching just nine in his first 31. Finishing Things Off The duo of Teixeira and McClennan is hitting .350 (14-for-40) with runners in scoring position during MAAC play with the rest of the team checking in at just .171 (21-for-123).

Interesting Over the last seven games, the Jaspers’ opposition have committed 17 errors after recording just 19 in the first 35 games. Coach Duffy Head Coach Jim Duffy is 5-6, all-time, against Rider as a head coach while helping lead the Jaspers to their first series victory over the Broncs since 2009 a year ago. Last Year Despite hitting just .196 and scoring 12 runs, Manhattan was able to post a pair of extra-inning victories over Rider thanks to sophomore Jason Patnick’s game-winning RBI single in the opener before classmate Evan Brown provided the difference in the finale. Santisteban hit a team-best .545 (6-for-11) with three runs, a double, home run and two RBI. Scouting Rider The Broncs enter this weekend’s play at first place in the MAAC and have won six-straight and 17-of-20. Rider is led by a pitching staff that has a MAAC-low 4.22 ERA, including dropping to 3.43 during league play. Fireworks At The Ballpark In a doubleheader sweep of NYIT, the Jaspers hit a blistering .407 (22-of-54) from the plate and with runners in scoring position (11-of-27). Manhattan won the opener by a 6-3 count before scoring a season-high 12 runs in posting a 12-5 victory. Homer Happy Santisteban blasted his second home run of the year in the second game against NYIT en route to finishing up 3-for-3 with four RBI while falling a triple shy of the cycle. The homer was the ninth of the season for Manhattan, matching last year’s team total. Lucky Number 7 The Jaspers are a perfect 9-0 when leading after seven innings after play. Clutch After going 4-for-23 (.174) with RISP over the first two games vs. Quinnipiac, Manhattan went 5-for-7 (.714) in the finale. Genners Heating Up Freshman Adam Genners is 5-for-10 over his last three games after going 5-for-27 to start the year. Good Things Come To Those Who Wait Junior Chris Reynolds delivered the eventual game-winning hit with his RBI single in the seventh inning of the Jaspers’ 6-5 victory over Quinnipiac and in the process notched his first RBI in over a month. Big Game Brown Brown went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run while reaching base a season-high three times at Army. Interesting Despite missing the last 22 games sophomore Jose Carrera continues to rank third in the MAAC in stolen bases with 15. Day Of Firsts Martin notched his first victory of the year in game two against NYIT while junior RHP Chris Liquori earned his first career save thanks to 3.0 scoreless frames. Kandy Man Sophomore RHP Shawn Kanwisher notched his second win of the year in the first game against NYIT after earning the victory against Quinnipiac with 3.0 scoreless innings or relief. He is 2-1 with 14 strikeouts and a 4.66 ERA over 19.1 innings and has made a team-high 14 appearances. The Fireman Sophomore RHP Matt Simonetti notched his second save with 2.0 scoreless frames in the win vs. Quinnipiac, highlighted by working around a bases loaded, one-out situation. 300 The Jaspers recorded their 300th career MAAC victory with a 3-2 win over Marist in the first game of last Saturday’s doubleheader. Manhattan is now 303-300 in league games during its 29 years of participation in the MAAC. “If You’re Not First, You’re Last” McClennan crushed a towering two-run home run in game one vs. Marist while etching his name in the school annals, as the blast was the first by a Jasper at Dutchess Stadium (as the home field of the Riverdale-based institution). McClennan Doing It With The Glove Joe McClennan earned ESPN #SCTop10 accolades for his impressive barehanded play at Monmouth, checking in at No. 4. He also recently moved over to shortstop and has played at second and third base this year. Fear The Beard Teixeira provided what would prove to be the game-winning hit in Manhattan’s thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win over Marist, delivering a two-run, bases-loaded double after going hitless in his previous 17 at-bats. Jacques Earns The Win Jacques earned the lone Jasper win of the weekend against Marist, firing 1.2 innings of one-hit relief. Ace Material Senior LHP Scott McClennan earned a tough no-decision in the series finale at Monmouth, striking out seven while yielding just one earned run on six hits over 9.0 innings.

Scott McClennan, Reynolds Garner MAAC Honors McClennan earned MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors after picking up his first win since 2013 at George Washington, holding the Colonials to just one unearned run on six hits over eight innings of work. Reynolds, meanwhile, earned MAAC Player of the Week accolades after hitting .625, going 5-for-8 with a home run, two doubles, three runs, two RBI and a walk over two games at GW. The citations were the first for the baseball program this season while the pitching honor was the second of McClennan’s career. Solid Follow-Up McClennan followed his outstanding performance with an even better outing the following weekend at George Mason, striking out a career-high nine while limiting the Patriots to a .083 average (1-for-12) with RISP. Cosgrove Named MAAC Rookie Of The Week/ECAC Co-Rookie Of The Week Cosgrove was named MAAC/ECAC Rookie of the Week after hurling 6.0 innings of one-hit ball at Hofstra, recording five 1-2-3 frames while striking out a career-high six and allowing just one unearned run. Jaspers Lauded By Eric Sorenson National college baseball columnist Eric Sorenson recognized Manhattan following the Jaspers’ win at FIU: 5- Okay, this is wayyyyyy off-the-radar, I know. But give some props to Manhattan today. “The Jaspers, who have barely had any practice time whatsoever, went down to play a DH vs. FIU and got drilled by an embarrassing 17-0 score in game one. But as you’ve heard coaches and analysts say all the time, the character of a team is how they react after a bad inning or a bad game. The Green Machine didn’t trip over its lip, coming back to win game two over the Golden Panthers 5-3. That says a lot about the Jaspers considering they could’ve just turtled up in game two and got run-ruled again.” Dutchess Stadium Manhattan opened its 16-game home schedule on Thursday, April 2 against Marist at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., the new home of Jasper baseball. Home of the short-season class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, Dutchess Stadium is used primarily for Hudson Valley Renegades baseball from late June to early September. 2015 MAAC Championship Manhattan will host the 2015 MAAC Baseball Championship from May 20-24 at Dutchess Stadium. Cosgrove Tabbed Top Freshman By D-1 Baseball The Staten Island native was tabbed as the top rookie in the MAAC renowned college baseball columnist Dr. Eric Sorenson. As a senior at Farrell, Cosgrove notched a 0.76 ERA with 69 strikeouts over 55 innings of work after going 6-0 with a 1.25 ERA the previous season. Preseason Poll The Jaspers were slated to finish sixth in the annual MAAC Coaches Poll with Canisius (115 points) tabbed to claim the 2015 MAAC Championship. Fairfield (107) was selected to finish second followed by Monmouth (89), Siena (83), Quinnipiac (73), Manhattan (61), Rider (55), Marist (50), Niagara (38), Iona (35) and Saint Peter’s (20) 11th. MAAC Success Manhattan has qualified for 11 of the last 12 MAAC Tournaments and is 17-17 with three MAAC Championships and two runner-up finishes during that time. Jaspers In the NCAAs The Riverdale-based institution is 2-7 in four trips to the NCAA Regionals, finishing second at the 2006 Lincoln Regional. Up Next Manhattan will play four games at NJIT beginning on Saturday, May 9.

JIM DUFFY
Head Coach - Fourth Year Seton Hall, 2001 88-116 (47-43 MAAC)
24
Jim Duffy is in his fourth year as the head baseball coach at Manhattan College. He led the Jaspers to the 2012 MAAC Championship in his first year and has guided the program to a pair of conference tournament appearances during his first three years as the skipper at Manhattan College. In 2013, Duffy guided the Jaspers through an injury-plagued season, in which Manhattan still won 24 games. Duffy mentored All-MAAC first team selections Ramon Ortega and Nick Camastro, who finished their Manhattan careers by cementing their names in Manhattan’s offensive record books. Duffy made a splash in his first year in the dugout, leading the Jaspers to their third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship. The landmark season also featured the only undefeated home record in NCAA Division I in 2012 as the Jaspers recorded a perfect 18-0 mark at Van Cortlandt Park. The Jaspers made conference history in their title run by rallying through the elimination bracket of the MAAC Tournament. Duffy’s club became the first team to win four games in three days to earn the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Manhattan was sent to the Columbia Regional to face two-time defending National Champion South Carolina. Manhattan won 33 games and posted an 18-6 conference record as it capture the 2012 MAAC regular season title in Duffy’s first season. He mentored five All-MAAC first team selections and seven MAAC Academic Honor Roll recipients. Two players from Duffy’s championship roster went on to sign professional baseball contracts in 2012. Duffy came to Riverdale after seven seasons as an assistant coach at Seton Hall, where he helped the Pirates win the Big East championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2011. Duffy began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater in 2001. That season, Seton Hall won its first Big East championship since 1987. In 2003, he was promoted to full-time assistant coach. Duffy worked primarily with the Pirates’ hitters and outfielders while also assisting with recruiting, scouting and team travel. Nine of Duffy’s players eventually moved on to professional baseball careers. He served as the head coach of the Monmouth Monarchs of the ABCCL collegiate summer league from 2004-10, leading the squad to a league championship in 2005. Duffy was a four-year starter at first base for the Pirates earning his bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall in 2001. He is Seton Hall’s all-time leader in putouts (1,387) while also ranking second in hits (247) and at-bats (709) and fifth in runs scored (165). A three-time All-Big East selection, Duffy was named New Jersey College Player of the Year and earned All-America honors after finishing ninth in the nation with a .429 batting average in 1995. The following season, he had a school-record 29-game hitting streak. In 1997, he signed a free agent contract with the Houston Astros. He was an outfielder in the Astros system for four years, advancing as high as Double-A before retiring in 2000. Duffy and his wife Danielle have a daughter, Jadan and son, Brennan.
