ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED

2511 Dobbins Bridge Rd., Anderson, South Carolina 29626 864.226.1248 / www.pvbcministries.org MISSION STATEMENT of Pleasant View Baptist Church Based on the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20, we believe it is our church’s mission to: Go into the world seeking to build bridges with the lost Reach them with the Gospel message of forgiveness and life Assimilate them into a local church fellowship Cultivate them in order to help them grow Equip them for fruitful ministry We want to be a church that stands for, is motivated by, and demonstrates G.R.A.C.E. In doing so we will be carrying out the evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and worship functions of a New Testament church.

A Word from Ben . . . Hello all! I am so glad to be a part of the church family at Pleasant View. In the short time that I have been here, you have made me feel like a part of your family. The presence of God’s love permeates every facet of ministry in this congregation. Each member welcomes with a friendly face, serves out of humility, and reflects the love of Christ in all things. It truly is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this family. I am excited to serve with you as we minister the gospel to the city of Anderson and beyond! I would like to make a few announcements concerning the summer plans for our youth ministry. We are currently organizing our summer activities and will have a compiled schedule shortly. However, I would like to continue to encourage all students to join us on Sunday and Wednesday nights for a time of fellowship!

Do you ever get to thinking that because of some of the things in your past that you are disqualified from God ever using you to advance His kingdom purposes? Or maybe here’s’ the problem for you. You believe that you are just too ordinary and imperfect for God to use you. You know, folks, we can make a lot of progress in overcoming such misunderstandings just by becoming more aware of how many Bible characters had serious flaws and were used of God anyway. Some of the greatest encouragement I get in reading the Bible comes from being reminded that God works through ordinary people who have their flaws just like I do. In the month of May, I will be preaching sermons on four Old Testament Bible characters who are like so many others in that they had serious flaws but still went on to be mightily used of God. In looking at the lives of Noah, Hannah, Solomon, and Habakkuk, we can all draw encouragement in how to respond to God’s leading and be used powerfully by Him despite our ordinariness and imperfections. Specifically, we are going to be looking at what real faith looks like, what God’s idea is for motherhood, what keeping the faith in a crazy world involves, and what is involved in avoiding a meaningless life. My prayer is that we will all be encouraged to draw encouragement from our God and come to fully accept that our lives can make a difference for His eternal purposes. You do want that, don’t you? Here is a way you can partner with your church in reaching the pre-churched: #1 Identify people you can invest yourself in by a) sending them a personalized word of encouragement, or b) taking them out to lunch and listening to them, c) or just listening responsively and being ready to step in when you perceive that there is a need. After you have identified the people you can invest in … #2 Invite them to come be a part of the worship experience at church with you. Our church is working hard to adequately prepare each worship experience with the utmost level of excellence in order to provide an atmosphere of acceptance and belonging for each invited guest; when you invite them to come, you are letting God use you. I encourage all of us join God in the work He is doing at Pleasant View.

Again, I am so glad to be a part of this congregation, and am extremely excited to see how the Lord will work!

Serving Christ together, Pastor Glenn

-Ben

Enabling a Child to Experience Camp We have reserved spots at summer camps for our youth and children! And we are excited! We are in need of a few sponsorships. SPONSORSHIP We try to make it so that a lack of money does not interfere with children being able to go to camp. Many of the children would not be able to go if balance due was left solely on their families to come up with all the money. That’s why we are asking for your support. If you would like to help a child to go to camp, then please pray to see how God would want you to give. Please follow the following steps in making a donation for camp as a sponsor. 1.) List your name on an offering envelope, & the amount you are giving, and beside that amount the words, “KidSalt” or “SummerSalt.” 2.) If you would like to support a specific child, then please see Ty Standridge for a child’s name. 3.) If you are a parent paying for your own child, put their name on the envelope. Please make the effort to follow these simple steps as it helps the church office to maintain good records for you. Thank you in advance for investing in God’s kingdom by investing in a child. Through your generosity, some children will come to know Christ as Savior. Others will be cultivated so that they are closer to coming to know Christ. Still others will grow in their relationship with Christ. Our youth will be attending SummerSalt - June 12-16,2017. Our children will be going to KidSalt – July 17-20, 2017.

We are blessed to have Kayla White and Margaret Bley serving as interim co-directors for our Children’s Ministry beginning Sunday, May 7th. Kayla or Margaret will be the lead teacher in our Children’s Church each week and will begin planning the summer children’s program. Both Kayla and Margaret are pursuing Theology degrees at Anderson University and both have had prior experience with children’s ministry. Please welcome these two ladies who have given prayerful consideration to joining with us at Pleasant View. Just for further clarification, the 2017 budget included an amount for a Children’s Minister who was responsible for our Children’s Church as well as the additional summer and school-time activities for the children. These ladies will be performing the budgeted responsibilities well below the 2017 budgeted amount. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Royals or one of our other active deacons.

Beginning May 7th, we should be back to all volunteers serving in the Preschool area of Pleasant View. You will be receiving a new list with dates that you will be serving. Since we have been blessed to find interim co-directors for our Children’s Ministry, one of our directors will be in Children’s Church each Sunday so our volunteer requirement in that area will change. Thank you for your willingness to serve the children of our church. How blessed we are to serve in an area so highly regarded by Jesus! Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
