Measuring Angles in Standard Position  Circles are useful because they allow us to look at angles that are larger than .  In order to identify angles on a circle, mathematicians came up with a convention for drawing angles.  Angles in standard position have one side resting on the positive side of the x-axis. That side is called the initial side.  The other side of the angle is called the terminal side.  To find the measure of an angle, we start at the initial side, then rotate counterclockwise until we reach the terminal side.  Unless otherwise noted, you can assume that angles we are discussing are in standard position.

Label the initial and terminal sides and find these angle measures. There is more than one correct answer for each.

A Unit Circle with no angle measures is below. The circle was split up into 8 equal pieces and also into 12 equal pieces. Each line represents a terminal side of an angle in standard position. Find the angle measure for each terminal side (each red dot). The measures should be between 0 and 360 degrees, or 0 and 2 radians. Check your answers on the answer key on the next page.
