Description The current transformer series KOFD is built according the dimension standard DIN 42600, Narrow Type. The standard giving dimensions for only the herein called medium size ABB Transmit also has developed a longer version to provide more core space. The KOFDseries of transformers covers the current range 15–3000 Amps for 12–36 kV. The 13.8 kV and 17.5 kV versions have the same dimensions as the 12 kV version.

KOFD transformers are available as single ratio, primary reconnectible double ratio and secondary reconnectible double ratio (or multiratio) types.

Secondary wiring

The terminal box is metal with plastic cover and provided with two detachable threaded inserts, size Pg. 16. Degree of protection is IP 30. The terminals are provided with M5 screws for the termination of the secondary wiring and with throughgoing holes for direct earthing of the secondary circuit by M6 screws. 6 terminals can be supplied with this construction. Maximum 11 terminals with earthing bridges can be mounted when more than 6 terminals are required. Of these, 9 pcs may be used as core secondary terminals. The terminal cover is sealable.

Indoor Type Current Transformers Technical data and ordering information Cantilever strength: 5 kN Environment The ambient temperature range is from –5 oC to +40 oC (IEC recommendations). The transformers must be protected against unusually heavy deposits of dust or similar pollution, as well as against direct sunshine.

Indoor Type Current Transformers Technical data and ordering information Use at high altitudes In mountaineous areas the height above sea level may be higher than the height specified in the IEC standard as design criteria (= 1000 m). The thin air at high altitudes affects the cooling of the transformers as well as the required creepage & free air distance to earth and between phases. The manufacturer should be consulted in such cases. The problem with creepage and free air distance can be solved by choosing transformer type designed for higher voltages. The requirement for impulse test voltge (BIL-level) should preferably NOT be higher than normal for the service voltage used as this may have a negative effect on the available output from the secondaries. The transformer specification can in such a case be for example: Type Service voltage Test voltages
