Men’s and Women’s Cycling Takes Center Stage at Miller Motorsports Park for Tour of Utah Hofland Claims Second Stage Win in America’s Toughest Stage Race; Rivera Takes Inaugural Women’s Edition Title Editor’s Note: Complete stage results and overall race standings are available at TourofUtah.com.

TOOELE, Utah (August 6, 2014) – Belkin-Pro Cycling’s Moreno Hofland (Netherlands) unleashed his horsepower along the historic Pony Express route in the Tooele Valley to capture Stage 3 presented by Utah Sports Commission at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. The Dutchman scored his second stage win of the week in a time of 4 hours, 29 minutes and 41 seconds at the finish line on the racetrack at Miller Motorsports Park. Finishing second on the stage was Andrea Palini (Italy) of Team Lampre-Merida, who was third on Stage 1 in Cedar City. Eric Young (USA) of Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies finished third. Both Palini and Young had the same time as Hofland. “Today, Team SmartStop did all the work, and it worked out pretty good. With two laps to go, UnitedHealthcare pulled full in the front, but we could stay in the wheels pretty easy and it was perfect for us,” said Hofland about his team working hard to help him earn a second stage win in Utah. Starting at the headquarters of IM Flash in Lehi, Stage 3 presented by Utah Sports Commission was considered a sprinter’s stage, offering less than 4,000 feet of climbing. Overall race leader Jure Kocjan (Slovenia) of Team Smartstop retained his Larry H. Miller Dealerships Leader’s jersey by finishing sixth on today’s 118.3-mile stage. Kocjan continues to hold a two-second lead over BMC Racing Team’s Michael Schär (Switzerland) and an eight-second margin over Serghei Tvetcov (Romania) of Jelly Belly presented by Maxxis. “The guys were awesome today. They led on the front of the peloton from the start (in Lehi) and they worked hard. The crosswinds made the stage much more difficult than it looked at first, so we just stayed at the front. I just stayed all the time at the front of the peloton

Wednesday also saw the inaugural Tour of Utah Women’s Edition presented by PlayHard GiveBack. Coryn Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind.) of UnitedHealthcare won in a sprint finish at Miller Motorsports Park (one hour, 16 minutes and 20 seconds) over an attack-driven 15-lap circuit race with 64 competitors. Second place was clinched by Mandy Heintz (Houston, Texas) of Guru Cycles powered by Haute Wheels Racing, just ahead of Meredith Miller (Ft. Collins, Colo.) of Pepper Palace Pro Cycling. The Most Aggressive Rider designation was awarded to Breanne Nalder (Salt Lake City, Utah) of DNA Cycling presented by K4, who led a solo attack until the final lap. “We had to ride the front a little bit to keep the speed up in the last two kilometers, so we ran through our riders pretty quickly. Alison (Powers) pulled through as usual, did an awesome lead out, delivering me to the line. Luckily I didn't run into any bad luck today so it went perfectly to plan,” said Rivera, who owns 58 national championships in her stellar career. The Tour of Utah returns to Ogden for a sixth time on Thursday, August 7 for the start of Stage 4 presented by Workers Compensation Fund. The start of the 104.7-mile stage will take place on Historic 25th Street in downtown Ogden at 11:10 a.m. and travels through the North Ogden Divide for the first of two ascents. The first big shakeup in the G.C. could happen on the slopes of the first mountaintop finish of the week, an hors categorie (HC) climb to Powder Mountain Ski Resort. This new addition to the Tour ascends more than 3,000 feet in just six miles. Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah Award Jerseys  Larry H.
