This past season Coach Murphy helped lead the Dutchmen to a winning record and a third place finish within the Liberty League at 10-6, which allowed them to advance to the League tournament. Union ended up hosting the Championship game and winning the Liberty League Tournament, gaining an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in 12 seasons. Two Dutchmen achieved All-League honors, Deshon Burgess (1st Team), and Wade McNamara (2nd Team). Several players received AllAcademic recognition, as the team’s collective GPA was once again above a 3.0 throughout the season. Union ultimately advanced to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating Wesleyan University. Coach Murphy is joined on staff by fellow Union alum Nick Ciresi. They were teammates at Union during the 2005-06 season, and Coach Murphy was an assistant on staff during Ciresi’s junior and senior seasons (2007-09) During his senior campaign in 2008-09, Ciresi lead the Liberty League in 3FG % and was 3rd in overall FG %. Coach Ciresi is now entering his 9th full collegiate coaching season and is excited to work alongside his former teammate/coach to continue to strengthen the Union Men’s basketball tradition.
