Mereworth Community Primary School
MEREWORTH MESSENGER Issue 2 20th October 2014
CULTURE WEEK THIS WEEK; FOCUS ON THE BRITISH ISLES I have been delighted with how easily our new children have settled into the school this year. Our year R children are a delight, and have very quickly adapted to the ‘Mereworth’ community. We are also happy to welcome Oliver into year 3 and Ianis into year 1, both have quickly settled into their new classes.
GROWTH MINDSET “I can’t do it....YET!!” As you are aware, we are embracing the ‘Growth Mindset’ culture and using this to develop children’s attitude to learning, developing their tenacity and perseverance. I was delighted to see so many parents at the presentation on 2nd October finding out what it is all about. I have heard some really positive feedback, with some telling me how they are beginning to use some of the principles in their own lives.
The second of the parent presentations will be on Wednesday 22nd October 9am, Do please As term 1 draws to a close, we come along if you have not yet attended a are very sorry to be losing two presentation. OPEN DAY Amazingly, it is time for us to start showing off our school to potential parents for September 2015! We will be holding a series of open days where we will showcase our lovely school to potential parents. If you know of anyone who has children who are 3 or 4 years old, and who may be interested in coming to see us in action, please share the dates of our open sessions.... *WEDNESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 9.30am* *FRIDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 9.30am* *WEDNESDAY 7TH JANUARY 2.00pm*
FOOTBALL CLUB We are currently arranging for a replacement coach to enable the football club, currently run by Mr Douse, to continue in term 2. We will let you know once we have made alternative arrangements, if you are aware of anyone who would be able to provide coaching to the children, and who has a suitable qualification and can be CRB checked, please let us know.
Your Country Needs You.... As part of the World War 1 commemoration this year, we have Quantum Theatre Company arriving in school on Thursday 6th November, they will be performing to the whole school to help the children understand the impact of WW1. We are very grateful to the PTA who have funded this.
GRAMMAR WORKSHOPS Do you know the difference between an embedded clause and a causal connective? When did you last knowingly use an auxiliary verb? You are probably aware that English Grammar has now become a real focus in schools, and is
taught from year 1 onwards. Many parents are feeling very unskilled as Grammar wasn’t taught explicitly when they went to school. In response to this, we have arranged a series of Grammar workshops, which will take place week commencing 10th November. We will be sending out further information at the beginning of next term. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE AGAIN IN TERM 2
