Miami County Biddy Basketball Rules for 7-8 Year Old Age Division  



         

All games will be played on a 9 foot goal with a 28.5” basketball. All IHSAA rules will apply unless noted otherwise. Games will consist of four quarters of eight minutes of running clock. The clock will be stopped for all timeouts throughout the game and also for all dead balls (including free throws) during the last two minutes of the game. Should the end of regulation result in a tie, the first overtime will last two minutes with any additional needed overtimes lasting one minute. Substitutions are not allowed in the first quarter. Second quarter substitutions can only be made for players that played the first quarter. Substitutions in the second half will be at the coach’s discretion. All substitutions must report to the scorer’s table and will be called into the game by the referee. **Reminder—It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that each player participates in at least two quarters of play. Coaches will be allowed two sixty second timeouts per half. Coaches will match players up by skill level with each player guarding an opposing player of similar skill level. Man-to-man half-court defense is required. Double-teaming is not allowed at any time, however help defense is allowed and encouraged. Stealing the dribble will be allowed. In addition, man to man pressing will be allowed during the last two minutes of the game if the point difference is less than 10 points. Players will be allowed a maximum of ten seconds to bring the ball across the half-court line. There will not be a lane violation enforced. However, the referees will caution the player if it becomes a habit of staying in the lane for extended periods of time. Each player will have a maximum of five fouls. Fouls during the act of shooting and accumulation of team fouls will result in free throws. Free throws will be taken from twelve feet. The inbounds pass is allowed to be guarded and stolen. Five seconds is the maximum amount of time for the inbounds pass to be initiated. Violations such as traveling and double-dribbling will be called at the referee’s discretion. Standings will be kept for this division. Those standings will determine seeding for the end of the year tournament to be scheduled after the season on February 20th and 21st. All players, coaches, and parents are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible manner with good sportsmanship and a good attitude. Improper behavior can/will result in technical fouls/suspensions at the discretion of the Biddy League Board.
