Context: The ACE fellows program is recognized as the nation’s premier presidential leadership training program with the aim of cultivating talent and building capacity among faculty and executive leaders. Since 1963, over 1800 fellows have participated in the program with the majority serving higher education as deans, provosts, chancellors, and presidents. As an ACE fellow at UCSD my leadership included the following work: INCLUDES Project: Partnered with Vice Chancellor of Research. Served as primary UCSD leader for INCLUDES project, fostering collaboration between UCSD faculty and industry partners in the Silicon Valley. Provided leadership and oversight for scaling and sustaining the project designed to provide access for adults with disabilities in the STEM workforce. Executive Vice Chancellor’s Budgetary Analysis Group: Participated in executive budgetary planning of all Academic Affairs, including space allocation, quarterly budget allocations, long-term budgetary planning for new initiatives. Institutional Undergraduate Student Retention project: Addressed retention efforts designed to close the achievement gap between historically underrepresented students and white students; conducted a review of best practices for reducing time to degree, and contributed metrics for data analytics of undergraduate students. NSF RED: Identified opportunity, catalyzed a UCSD team, consulted on successful submission of an NSF Revolutionizing Engineering Departments (RED) research proposal. ACE Council of Fellows: Budget and Development Committee and Professional Development Committee. Served on UCSD Chancellor’s Cabinet meetings; Chancellor’s Community Advisory Meetings; Shadowing of executive and administrative leadership (CFO in strategic planning and visioning of UCSD Health; VC of Research, tech transfer initiatives; Deans in meetings related to faculty advancement, donor relations, space allocations, strategic vision). Received ACE formal training in all areas of institutional administration, including: strategic planning; university branding; institutional finance and accounting; friend-raising and fundraising; executive communication; crisis management; diversity and inclusive leadership. Coordinated campus visits and meetings with university executive leaders for ACE fellows; participated in 40 site visits to universities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Met with and interviewed over 100 university leaders including Chancellors, Presidents, Provosts, Vice Presidents, Development officers, Deans, and Community Engagement leaders.
