The whole purpose of mikvah is to bring holiness and sanctity into our lives. It is called Family Purity because mikvah empowers the woman to bring purity into her home and to her entire family. The Jacques and Hanna Schwalbe Mikvah was built in order to make this most essential Mitzvah, which is the very foundation of our homes and community, the most positive and pleasant experience possible. Thank G-d the effort has succeeded beyond our wildest imagination. Over the past eight years, thousands of Jewish women and brides have experienced some of their most intimate and spiritual moments in the spa-like setting of the Upper East Side Mikvah. We will do everything in our power to continue to safeguard this most sacred Jewish institution.

We feel that it is important to share with you a number of policies we already have in place and that we are implementing to maintain the safety of the mikvah.

The Jacques and Hanna Schwalbe Mikvah is used exclusively for women strictly for Taharat Hamishpocho with the exception of Erev Yom Kippur and Erev Rosh Hashana, when it’s open to men.

The mikvah, which is based on the Jewish ideal of modesty, is locked at all times and is only accessible to the managers of the mikvah. None of the maintenance people have unescorted access to the mikvah.

We, however, can never be cautious enough. Consequently, this past Sunday, October 27 we had the very reputable Israeli firm Global Operations, headed by veterans of Israel’s Security Service, who provide security for some of the largest synagogues, schools and Jewish institutions in New York do a thorough sweep of the mikvah. As expected, it was 100% clean. They also are going to train the staff to know what to look for so that there won’t even be the possibility of misconduct in the future.

In addition, to further enhance the safety of the mikvah, Global Operations suggested that we install an access control system to monitor whoever enters the mikvah during off hours. This system will be installed in the near future.

In conclusion rest assured that we will do everything in our power to ensure that the women of the Upper East Side can continue to enjoy our very special mikvah while feeling safe and secure.

In the merit of this precious mitzvah, may Hashem bless all of us and the entire Jewish people that we raise our families in in a safe, serene and secure world and that our children grow up to be proud Jews who will glorify Hashem’s name by their exemplary behavior.
