legiate Conference with a 2-16 record. • Junior forward Jenna Beck, who started all 27 games for the Griffins last season and averaged over 30 minutes per contest, joins six other returning players to the 2008-09 team. Juniors Carley Glass and Maryanne Glass, senior Marianne Frinfrock and sophomores Jessica Pruiti and Samantha Dodds make up the rest of the returning letterwinners from 2007-08. • In the 2008-09 preseason coaches poll for the CACC, Chestnut Hill was selected to finish seventh in the South Division. • Lincoln will meet Millersville at the WCU Alumni Classic for the second time in as many years. The Lions have never beaten Millersville and fell last season 59-31 to the Marauders. • Lincoln has had a busy early season schedule as it has played seven games in the first two weeks of the 2008-09 campaign. The Lions won their season opener against Briarcliffe, 69-52, but have lost six straight since then. Only one of those losses has come by less than 17 points. • The Lions return three starters and six players from last year’s 7-17 team. Sophomore guard DeJuana Mosley led the Lady Lions in scoring last season with a 13.7 average while senior forward Tanina Cook also averaged in double-figures with 11.6 points per game. The other returning starter for the Lady Lions is junior guard Chanelle Harris who led them in assists for the second straight season. • This season, the Lady Lions have three players averaging in double-figures. Freshman guard Sharay Dubose, a 1,000-point scorer at Parkside High School in Salisbury, MD, has led the Lions in scoring averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. Dubose has made just two starts this season but is averaging over 33 minutes per gameand is also third on the team in rebounding with 6.0 per game. Mosley and Cook have each made six starts for the Lady Lions and are averaging 14.2 and 10.6 points per game, respectively.

The two starters are first and second in rebounding as well with Mosley averagin 6.7 boards per game and Cook at 6.4 per contest. • While the Lady Lion offense has had few problems putting the ball in the basket with a team average of 62.6 points per game, the team has struggled on the defensive side of the ball. CHC’s 204 turnovers have been part of the reason the team is giving up almost 80 points per game.

THE LAST MEETING

• For the second game in a row the Millersville University women’s basketball team used an early first half lead to complete the weekend sweep at the West Chester Alumni Invitation, topping Lincoln University 59-31. The Marauders shot out to a 41-13 first half lead and pushed the visiting Lincoln Lady Lions to commit 27 turnovers. The Lady Marauders worked hard on defense pulling down 48 rebounds, 29 of them on the defensive side of the ball, as well as nabbing 16 steals. The Marauders (8-1) worked with a big lineup as they had 14 players seeing time and 13 of them contributing for points. The Lady Marauders forced the Lincoln Lady Lions (0-7) to shoot a laxidazical 26.3 percent from the field and used good pressure defense to hold the Lions to a 0-13 performance from three-point range. Gladine St.Julien (jr. Leesport/Schuylkill Valley) led all scorers with 12 points. She went five-offive from the field and grabbed five rebounds. Raquel Green (so. Philadelphia/Coppin St.) contributed with 10 points in 15 minutes of play. She went four-of-five from the field as well as a perfect two-of-two from the free throw line. Forward Jenna Craig was named to the 22nd Annual WCU Alumni Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance over the weekend. Craig recorded ten points, eight rebounds and two

steals in 20 minutes of action in Saturday’s 70-40 victory over Columbia Union. Craig was good for eight points, eight rebounds and three steals in the win over Lincoln. The Marauders went 2-0 for the second year in a row at the West Chester Alumni Classic and grabbed their 8th win of the season.

THE LAST TIME OUT

• The Lady Marauders forced visiting University of the Sciences into 39 turnovers and led from wire to wire in another blowout victory, 67-45, at Pucillo Gymnasium. Millersville improved to 4-0 on the season with the win and ran its regular season winning streak to 17 games dating back to last season. Millersville (4-0) started strong and used 21 steals on defense to generate much of its offense. Led

by junior Jenna Craig, the Marauders capitalized on turnovers as they held a 37-15 points off turnovers advantage and outscored the Devils 24-3 on second chance opportunties. Craig scored 13 points to lead all scorers for Millersville, while forward Gladine St. Julien was the only other Marauder in double-figures with 12. The Marauders used a 10-2 spurt to start the game as guard Jenna Philo connected for a 3-point basket on the first possession. Turnover after turnover resulted in more points for Millersville as Philo’s second 3-point basket of the game capped the 10-2 run. Philo finished the game with a season-high nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from long range. Millersville extended its lead to 18-4 and did not let the Devils connect on their second field goal until after the midway point of the first half. Guard Allison Weiss, who finished with just four points, sank a field goal with 9:40 to play to end

2008 Millersville Women’s Basketball Game Notes another Marauder run. Millersville carried a 14-point lead (34-20) into the locker room. The Devils never came closer than 12 points down the rest of the way as Millersville put the game out of reach down the stretch. A 13-0 run starting at the 16:40 mark of the second half put Millersville in front by 25 (53-28) and allowed head coach Mary Fleig to turn it over to the reserves. PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week, Gabrielle Styles, gave Millersville a boost off the bench scoring four points and pulling down six rebounds, all on the offensive end. Millersville was relentless on the offensive glass, holding a 29-6 rebounding advantage on the scoring end. Styles and second-year guard Dominique Stroman each had six while Craig and forward Emily Balogh grabbed three apiece. The 39 turnovers forced by Millersville was the second-most this season only eclipsed by the 41 they caused in the season-opening victory over Columbia Union. Millersville is causing nearly 33 turnovers per game while commiting just over 15.

MARAUDER MILESTONES

• Forward Gladine St. Julien, an All-PSAC Eastern Divsion First Team selection last season, was named to the 2008 Preseason All-PSAC East Team.

POWER FORWARD

• Forward Gladine St. Julien stepped up in a huge way last season after the loss of PreseasonAll-PSAC selection Ashley Romanoski due to injury. St. Julien led the Marauders in scoring average (12.5) and was second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. • St. Julien was honored as the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week three times last season. • St. Julien poured in a career-high 22 points on December 18, in the first of three losses on the season to California (Pa.). She matcher her career high on February 23 in a four-point victory over East Stroudsburg. • The 6-0 forward scored in double figures in 21 of the team’s 30 games last season and managed four double-doubles. St. Julien led the Marauders in scoring 13 times and rebounding 11 times.

• Millersville’s women’s basketball program began in 1918 and since then, it has compiled 687 wins, leaving it just thirteen victories shy of 700 all-time wins. Under Fleig, the Marauders have compiled almost half of those victories with 327. • The women’s team will look to extend its 14-game PSAC Eastern Division winning streak when it travels to West Chester on January 14 for the East opener. • Last season, coach Fleig won her 300th game at Millersville in the season opener, an 81-38 thrashing of Alderson-Broaddus in the MU Tipoff Classic.

ADVANTAGE PUCILLO

EARLY EXPECTATIONS

• Despite returning three full-time starters from last year’s team and two more players with five or more starts, the Marauders welcome eight new faces to this year’s squad. • Fleig has recruited seven freshman and a tranfer to fill out the 2008 roster that also includes nine returning players. Chelsea Barsky, a transfer from St. Francis (Pa.), is in her junior season and despite playing mostly at the guard position while at the Division I Institution, the 5-11 transfer will be called upon to do most of her work in the post. • The incoming class is well balanced with four guards and five forwards. With the addition of 2007-08 red-shirt Emily Balogh, the Marauders will have a very deep bench to spell the starters.

• After posting a 24-6 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in the PSAC East a year ago, the Marauders were pegged to finish second by the coaches in the PSAC Preseason Poll. • Picked to finish first in the Eastern Division in 2008 is the division’s newest member, Shippensburg. Shippensburg made the switch to the East after the realignment of the PSAC to accomodate the additions of Gannon and Mercyhurst to the Western Division. Shippensburg qualified for the PSAC playoffs last season as the fourth seed out of the very competitive Western Division. AllAmerican and Western Division Athlete of the Year Lauren Beckley heads a Lady Raider team that has reached the playoffs in 13 of the past 14 seasons. • West Chester, who qualified for the PSAC playoffs last season as the second seed, finished the season at 9-3 in the division and is picked to finish one spot behind Millersville in third. Kutztown, who won just four games in the division last year, is picked fourth while East Stroudsburg is fifth.

• Since Millersville began playing its home games in Pucillo Gymnasium in 1982, the Lady Marauders are an impressive 249-76 at home in 26 seasons. The team has never won less than seven games at Pucillo in a single season and has never had a losing record. Millersville has recorded three or less losses at home in 18 of 26 seasons at Pucillo including a stretch of seven straight seasons from 1996 to 2002. • Since the 2000-01 season, Millersville holds a .795 winning percentage at Pucillo.

NEW FACES

MARCH MADNESS

• Extending the season into March is becoming commonplace at Millersville, and in 2007-08, the Marauders earned their 12th straight appearance in the PSAC Tournament and seventh consecutive appearance in the conference semifinals.

• Despite falling in the PSAC Tournament semifinals to California (Pa.), the Marauders entered the NCAA Division II Tournament as the No. 7 seed in the East Region. Despite leading with under eight minutes to play in the openinground contest, the Marauders eventually fell for the third time on the season to California (Pa.) to end their season. • The Marauders have appeared in the NCAA Tournament five times under the direction of Fleig and have posted a 2-5 record in those appearances. Millersville defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 75-71 to advance to the regional semifinal in 1999 and the 2002 team knocked off Belmont Abbey, 84-60 to advance for the only two victories.

BREAKING RECORDS

• In the season-opening 101-30 victory over Columbia Union, the Marauders eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time since the 19992000 season. In that season the Marauders ironically knocked off the same team (Columbia Union) by a score of 102-52. • The 101-point effort was helped in large part to the 60 first-half points scored by the Marauders which broke the school record of 54 set by the 1992-93 team in a lopsided win over Holy Family. • The 71-point margin of victory also broke the school record set by the 1992-93 team that defeated Cheyney by a final score of 94-28.

HOT STARTS

• The Marauders have started the season 3-0, marking the second consecutive season the team has started with three straight wins and the ninth time under Fleig the team has started with at least a 2-0 record. • In each of the eight previous seasons under Fleig the Marauders have started 2-0 or better, the team has never won less than 15 games and has finished at least six games over .500.

ONLY 30??

• Millersville has held its opponent to just 30 points twice this season, a feat never before accomplished by a Marauder team under Fleig. In wednesday’s win over Goldey-Beacom, the Marauders held the Lightning to just two secondhalf field goals.

2008 Millersville Women’s Basketball Game Notes Mary Fleig

Head Coach Lock Haven ‘79 19th Season (323-175) A five-time PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year, Mary Fleig earned her 300th win as Millersville University Women’s Basketball coach in the 2007-08 season and completed her 18th season at the helm. Her 300th victory came in the first game of the season when the Marauders took down visiting Alderson-Broaddus 81-38. With a career coaching record of 446-235 in 25 seasons, Coach Fleig now stands 10th on the Division II all-time wins list. Fleig has compiled a 323-175 (.649) record at MU and last year guided the Marauders to a perfect 12-0 record in Eastern Division play, just the fourth undefeated season for a PSAC team since the conference’s formation. The team’s overall 24-6 record was just one win shy of Fleig’s benchmark (25 wins in 19992000) and set the record for winning percentage (.857). Fleig guided the Marauders to their seventh consecutive conference tournament semifinal appearance in 2008. The Marauders also earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, their first since 2005. The berth was helped in part by a mid-season 14-game winning streak, the third-longest in school history. In 2006-07, Millersville bowed out for the second time in as many years in the second round of the conference playoffs and finished with a very respectable 17-11 record. The 2004-05 campaign culminated in the Marauders’ first PSAC title in 18 years, and first in Fleig’s illustrious tenure, when the Black and Gold ended California’s three-year championship reign with a thrilling 76-71 triumph over the Vulcans in the “State Game” at Pucillo Gymnasium. Fleig has guided the Marauders to unprecedented success with winning seasons in 17 of her 18 seasons and six NCAA Division II tournament berths (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008). Over the past 10 seasons, Fleig has recorded a 206-88 record and has reached the conference tournament in each of those seasons. The only Marauder mentor to eclipse the 200-win mark in team history, Fleig was selected as the 2001-02 District 2 Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Millersville has posted win streaks of 15 (2004-05), 14 (1999-2000 and 20072008) and 13 (2001-02) during the Fleig era and has posted a fine 162-54 PSAC East record (.750) during her 18-year MU tenure. During her tenure as Millersville mentor, Fleig has instilled discipline with a keen emphasis on fundamentals and strong defense. Her success at MU mirrors what she achieved at nearby Franklin & Marshall College where, during her seven years at the helm, she turned the Lady Diplomat program into a Division III powerhouse. Fleig’s F&M teams posted a 122-60 record, captured three consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division championships, and posted a 38-2 division record from 1987 to 1990. Her last four F&M squads amassed 20-5, 25-4, 24-5 and 25-5 records-- an average of 23.5 wins per season and a phenomenal .832 winning percentage. Her 1987-88 squad won 19 consecutive games, captured NCAA-III Middle Atlantic Regional title honors, and advanced to the national quarterfinal round. She also guided the Lady Diplomats to three straight NCAA-III tournament appearances. A native of Harrisburg, Fleig was a three-sport athlete at Central Dauphin High School. She went on to compete for four seasons each in basketball and field hockey at Lock Haven University. Fleig earned a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education from Lock Haven in 1979. After she served three years as a teacher and coach at De-

lone Catholic High School, she moved on to the collegiate level as a graduate assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University (1982-83), where she earned advanced degree credits. A member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Assn., Mary serves on the WBCA/ Division II All-American Committee.
