The Forest Hill area has over 250 nurseries growing an endless list of flowers, shrubs and trees. The town boasts as being the Nursery Capital of the South. There are many nurseries located here due to the mild climate, good soil and an abundance of good water. Indian Creek Recreational Area is within 15 minutes, and this public recreational area has a large beautiful 2,250 acre lake with good fishing and boating. There is a public camp ground, boat ramps and white sandy swimming beaches. The lake provides good water skiing, tubing, party barging as well as other boating activates. Camp Claiborne was established within this part of the Kisatchie National Forest and near these selling acres to train soldiers for combat during World War II. During the war 500,000 U.S. troops were trained here. Many heroes and famous generals at one time or another during the war were at Camp Claiborne including Eisenhower, Patton, Ridgway, Bradley, McNair, Marshall and Stilwell to just name a few. Soon after the war ended Camp Claiborne was closed and the land was returned to the national forestry system.
