Minnesota State University Athletics Special Events Internship The Minnesota State University Athletic Department will be offering one (1) Special Events internship position for the 2017-18 academic year. The Athletic Department special events internship focuses on the objectives listed below. All interns will work directly with Athletic Department’s Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations, Director of Marketing & Special Events and the Marketing and Promotions Graduate Assistants. Special Events 1) Assist with preparation and management of the following Athletic Department Special Events: a. Student Athlete Challenge 1. Handle all database updates when gathering student-athlete information both before, during and after mailings are sent 2. Update the student-athlete challenge webpage such as player numbers and sign-in page 3. Assist with the design of the mailers (August) and thank-you (Spring) 4. Track funds donated and ‘bad addresses’ in the master system b. Maverick Hoops Fest 1. Help with silent auction items; gathering items, creating bid sheets, and organizing 2. Set-up the day of the event 3. Arranging of food vendors 4. Updating the website and marketing materials; attending planning meetings c. Big Bobber Ice Fishing Contest 1. Attend all planning and sponsor meetings 2. Assist with Big Bobber Bar Tour stops by selling raffle tickets and ice fishing tickets, as well as at men’s home hockey games 3. Update the website and all marketing materials including promotional posters, Save the Dates, Thank You postcards, Corporate Challenge Information, VIP Tent Information, etc. 4. Create signage for the day-of such as A-frames, food signage, banners and posters for Food/Concession Tent and VIP tent 5. Help with the Pre-party and set-up the day before event/ day of the event 6. Work with Take A Vet Fishing to assist as needed and collaborate on tickets with the MAC-V in Mankato 7. Ensure permits and contracts are signed and completed, among other duties. d. Pig Skin BBQ 1. Assist with planning meetings to determine profit increases 2. Update marketing materials for smokers (competition portion) as well as website and tickets 3. Help day-of event with set-up, registration, raffle sales and judging of smokers Marketing 1) Promoting MSU Athletic Events (IF assistance is needed) a. Construct and implement marketing promotions and initiatives to enhance event attendance and atmosphere b. Use your creativity to create flyers, make posters, and put together group nights or special events. Examples include bringing a little league out to a baseball game or putting together a Mascot night for one of our basketball games.

There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 5:30pm in the Johnson Alumni Room in the Taylor Center Hall of Champions. This includes regular attendance at meetings, office hours and Mavericks sporting events.
