Pomphlett School Council Minutes for meeting held on Tuesday 20th November @ 9.30pm Present : Evie, Liam, Beryl, Isaac, Tom, Molly, James, Dolly, Javier, Jessie, Kalib, Jason and Evelyn In Attendance : Mrs Parker Taking Minutes : Sue Speak 1) Evie welcomed everybody to the meeting Evie introduced a guest to the Council, and told them that Mrs Parker would like to talk to them all about RotaKids. Mrs Parker gave out small chalk boards and chalks and told everybody that they could write some important words on the boards to take back to their classroom. She went on to explain what RotaKids Club was and what the members of the club could do like Help to fill boxes with school equipment to be sent to Africa for school children. They could also get involved in Community Service like visiting elderly people. When joining the Club you have to make a promise which is:As a RotaKid, I promise, To be fair to all, To serve my community, To show respect for others Mrs. Parker told the Council that there was no RotaKids Club in Plymouth, or Devon and Cornwall and if they wanted to start one it would be the first in this area. It would be fun as well as helping to do some really good work helping other people, if you joined you would have baseball caps or T-Shirts to show that you belonged to
the Club, and Leaders would be picked to help run the Club. Mrs. Parker would come along to the meetings to help you. The Council thought it was a good idea but not sure how many people would be interested, Mrs. Parker said it did not matter how many first joined and when the children realized it was a fun Club to belong to, more may want to join which would be OK. For more information you can go to this website http://www.ribi.org/about-us/clubs-and-members/rotakids We returned to the Agenda items 2) Projects Football Years 3 – 6 The Councilors in Years 5 & 6 have not had a chance to talk to their classes so they will do this before the January meeting. Cross Country – Mrs. Makelis runs the Junior Cross Country and has said she would be very happy to talk to the Infant Teachers and arrange something for the Infants Gardening Project - Liam, Evie and Sue looked at what gardening equipment the School has in the storage area and then decided what to buy with the Morrison Vouchers so that Mrs. Tothill can order by the deadline. We had to abandon the looking at the School Garden due to the rain. Due to time constraints for the meeting Evie asked the Councilors about their view on arranging a Fundraising event, meeting with the PTA and the possibility of going to look at another School with a lovely garden – everybody agreed they would like to do all of these things. There was no time to talk about a year plan so Sue will put together a plan for the Council to look at in the next meeting. There were no items to discuss from the class groups. Evie reminded everybody that the next meeting is on Thursday 17th January and Isaac will Chair the meeting and thanked Mrs. Parker for coming to the meeting.
