A Message From Your Incoming President

A Message From Your Outgoing President

Once again, this year has gone by quickly. I want to thank you for taking the time to make sure you could attend our meetings since we are such a small group – and we do need all of us in attendance! Everyone did a great job stepping up to help when needed.

Here we are at the end of summer; and I hope everyone has had time to enjoy the outdoors now that the temperatures have cooled off and we have received some long awaited rain. In July, I and 14 other employees went to Chicago to hear the motivational speaker Tony Robbins for an educational forum on how to become a better leader in this challenging economic time. He explained how we are in the Winter Season of Economics; with high unemployment and consumers being cautious on their spending. Tony Robbins informed us that 65% of Fortune 500 businesses were started during these Winter Seasons as people took advantage of the difficult times to become more innovative and motivated.

We took on dual roles of officer and committee chairs as we succeeded in "Making the Leap to Remarkable" to ensure the success of our chapter. I would like to thank you for your contributions. Lynnette, Eloise, Nancy, and Sue – you all devoted extra time and effort in fulfilling your positions, and I appreciate your cooperation. Looking back over the past year, we did have a successful year. We participated in three community service projects – Iowa River Hospice in October, Salvation Army hats and mittens in December, and "Purses With Purpose" in April – thanks to Eloise for organizing the purse for us. It always feels good to give back to our community.

I believe this is the same for our Chapter as we look at the year ahead; we too need to ask the question how can we be innovative and motivated in this Winter Season for our organization? We have seen the many changes happening within our international organization; for example the newly formed Foundation of the International Association of Administrative Professionals as it brings together the two previous non-profits The Retirement Trust Foundation and the Research & Education Foundation; plus the many other new ideas that they are working on to better assist the administrative professionals throughout the world.

We had interesting programs – touring the Iowa River Hospice House, Recycling Magic, Your Work Style in Color – An Approach to Working Relationships, Meeting and Event Planning, and The Computer Age – How Has It Transformed You? We leave each meeting having learned something new or refreshed our memory bank on something we may have learned years ago.

So let’s take on the challenge by making this the year that we will “Be the One” in helping to make a difference in revitalizing our Chapter.

Mid-Iowa Professionals Chapter will be celebrating our 30th anniversary! Perhaps this will be the year we recruit more admins to join our organization. We will definitely "Be the One" when we do! Thank you for "Making the Leap to Remarkable" this year!
