Miscellaneous The Seven Sum m its. A m ericans have been in the lead in clim bing the highest points o f all the continents. Now, Dolly L efever has been added to the list as the third w om an and the first A m erican w om an. In the past, there has been a question as to w hich w as actually the highest point on tw o continents. Some previously gave the honor in Europe to M ont Blanc, but today it is generally accepted that E lbrus in the C aucasus is the highest in Europe. There is less agreem ent about w hether C arstensz Pyram id (4884 m eters, 16,024 feet) in Irian Jaya in O ceania (A ustralasia) or K osciusko (2228 m eters, 7310 feet) in A ustralia should be the seventh. For that reason, two lists m ust be given, one with K osciusko and the other with C arstensz Pyram id. The clim bers’ names, nationality and date when the last clim b was com pleted (up to the beginning of the sum m er o f 1994) are given below: Seven Continents with Kosciusko
