NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR

Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team; ISU's Roberson / SDSU's Wieneke Earn Top Honors   ST. LOUIS — QB Tre Roberson of Illinois State has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Year, while WR Jake Wieneke of South Dakota State has earned MVFC Freshman of the Year honors. They head a list of 22 student-athletes named to the 2014 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team. League coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team.   Roberson led the MVFC in total offense (261.1 ypg) and with a pass efficiency rating of 150.8. He accounted for 29 total touchdowns (21 pass, 8 run) and finished the season with 2,198 passing yards and 21 touchdowns through the air. A three-time MVFC Newcomer of the Week selection, Roberson also rushed for 674 yards and eight scores on the ground to lead the way for a dangerous ISU offensive attack that led the conference in total offense (451.5 ypg), rushing offense (241.4 ypg) and scoring offense (38.7 ppg).   Wieneke became the first freshman in league history to top 1,000 receiving yards in a season, entering this weekend with 1,375 yards on 70 receptions with 15 TDs. The Maple Grove, Minn., native recorded seven 100-yard games during the regular season and caught a touchdown pass in all eight league games. His 15 TD receptions are a single-season school record and one shy of the MVFC record. He is a Jerry Rice Award finalist.
