SMALL BUT POWERFUL ML7 SERIES MINIATURE PHOTOELECTRIC SENSORS

ML7 SERIES – THIS IS HOW VERSATILE AND ROBUST SMALL CAN BE

THE MINIATURE PHOTOELECTRIC SENSOR WITH THE MAXIMUM OF FEATURES In all areas of machine and plant engineering or with logistics and packaging processes, photoelectric sensors play a vital part in the control and coordination of workflows. Following the general trend for increasingly complex machines that result in limited spaces, photoelectric sensors are also getting smaller. By using state-of-theart technologies and manufacturing standards, the ML7 series has features and sensing capabilities that were previously only achieved in larger housings. The robust construction, high quality standards and, reliability of the ML7 sensors ensure an economical and efficient solution to your automation requirements.

THE “NORMAL” VERSION FOR SIMPLE JOBS

The scope of application for the ML7 series includes all areas of machine construction such as packaging technology or storage and materials handling. All target detection tasks are carried out reliably and without requiring maintenance. Particular emphasis was placed on ease of use and flexible mounting. Special algorithms ensure high resistance to extraneous light and protection against mutual interference – and all this at a switching frequency of 1000 Hz. The user is notified of faults in the wiring via the LEDs. The signal strength indication and output will indicate lens contamination and misalignments before the sensor fails, thus preventing machine downtime in advance.

THE “SPECIAL” VERSION FOR DIFFICULT JOBS

DIFFUSE MODE WITH BACKGROUND SUPPRESSION – ML7-8-H Sensing range can be set from 4 mm … 140 mm or 5 mm … 350 mm With their powerful technology, the new ML7-8-H series is available in a diffuse mode with background suppression and a low black/white differential. In everyday operation, color and surface of the scanned objects have virtually no impact on sensing range and reliable detection. This is made possible by analysis of several receiver elements, which operates according to the optical trangulation principle. The sensing ranges (140 mm – red; 350 mm – infrared) can be adjusted via a potentiometer.

HIGHLIGHTS ■ Reliable detection of any surface, independent of surface and color ■ Mechanical sensing range adjustment ■ Very small black/white differential ■ Small, sharp light spot for the secure recognition of small objects ■ Light sources: red light or infrared light ■ High switching point accuracy ■ Precise back ground suppression, adjustable ■ Reliable suppression of reflective backgrounds ■ Automatic transmitter control for best resistance to stray and extraneous light ■ Intensity adjustment provides particular stability against environmental influences

THE “SENSITIVE” VERSION FOR TRANSPARENT OBJECTS

POLARIZED RETRO-REFLECTIVE SENSORS FOR CLEAR OBJECT DETECTION – ML7-54-G Range of 7.6 m / 3.5 m max. in TEACH operation Even under the roughest of environmental conditions, our “sensitive” version remains unfazed. For the reliable detection of the smallest of contrasts, the devices require some additional features to function maintenance-free and to be stable in the application. This includes temperature compensation and automatic threshold tracking. If, during operation, any contamination occurs, any misalignment due to vibration or if there are any great temperature fluctuations, due to shrink tunnels, the sensor will adapt automatically to the new condition. The “2-point-scanning” method provides, apart from a large range, also an extraordinary functional reliability. Contamination will cause the signal strength indication to respond. The functional reliability is increased, service intervals are extended and, thus, costs reduced.

HIGHLIGHTS ■ Reliable detection of transparent objects independent of color, transparency and reflecting surfaces ■ “2 Point Scanning” method ■ Two devices in one: you can switch between clear object detection mode and standard retroreflective mode with extended sensing range ■ Teach-In switch for setting the contrastrecognitions levels ■ 3 contrast levels I = 10%, II = 18% und III = 40% can be selected ■ Automatic re-adjustment if there is any contamination in contrast recognition operation ■ Temperature compensation for secure switching behavior ■ Coaxial optics – optical axis transmitter and receiver optical axes are the same, which provides optimal sensing even at very close ranges

SPECIAL FEATURES

WHAT ELSE DO THE SENSORS OF THE ML7 SERIES FEATURE? The ML7 series sensors are certified to ECOLAB and meet the requirements of protection class IP69K. ML7 is therefore proven for use in extreme washdown conditions such as those in the food processing industry. However, this feature isn’t very useful if the photoelectric sensors can withstand the washdowns and the reflectors cannot. Therefore, the accessories include suitable reflectors with Ecolab approval and IP69K. Reflectors with polarization filters eliminate stray effects caused by depolarization when detecting transparent films and plastics. Continued pressure to reduce costs and global competition are responsible for the fact that users have to take advantage of any options that will make their plants faster, more efficient and more economical. This can only be realized with new, additional functions and a general increase in the degree of automation. However, more control and automation also requires more information on what happens in the process. This is exactly where reliable and secure object detection with ML7 photoelectric sensors plays a vital part.
