Module 302: Supporting Angels – Course Description Description This module is designed for economic development professionals and others who want to support the development of a flourishing angel investor community.
Overview This module is for economic development professionals who want to work more productively alongside angels to promote the growth of new ventures. Students will be exposed to the business of angel investing, the importance it has on economic development of regions, the current and significant challenges that angels face, and the ways in which others in the start-up ecosystem can support the activities of angel investors and their investee firms.
Learning objectives By the end of this module the students will be able to: •
Describe who are angel investors are and the role they play in economic development

Understand the key success factors of angel investing and the ways organizations, like their own, strengthen these factors
•
Make changes in their organizations to enable them to better support angel investing in their community.
Prerequisites Students should have experience working in an organization that supports angel investment or new entrepreneurial ventures.
Pedagogy A mix of lectures and instructor-led group discussions is used in this module. There will be an exercise in which students are asked to work with others at their table 1) to identify which area of support needs the most attention and 2) to propose an idea to address this concern. The panelists will then discuss this concern and the students’ proposal to address this concern. In this way, the session will be steered toward issues of most concern to the students which should enhance their experience.
