Monday 16th May 2016 Dear All Welcome to the next edition of our school newsletter. Year 6 have now completed their SATs tests and I would like to say a huge well done to all. It was lovely to see all the children doing the best that they can. I would also like to thank all of the staff for the support that they gave to our pupils.

This week also saw the start of our Assertive Mentoring pupil meetings. Every child in the years 1 to 6 will have a 1 to 1 meeting with their teacher to celebrate all that they have achieved this year. During the meetings they will discuss academic ability as well as their attitude to school. These meetings will take place each term from now on. Initial feedback has been very positive with pupils wearing huge smiles as they come out of their meeting. What a great opportunity to celebrate! Whilst I am on the subject of celebrating, there is a new notice board in our entrance hall. This is to celebrate the Holly Lodge Community. If children / adults have completed community tasks/national competitions etc. we want to celebrate those with you. It would be wonderful to have details of the event as well as photographs and certificates to put on our board! Let’s celebrate together! Finally, may I draw your attention to the rules of the drop off below. The drop off is an on-going problem for us at Holly Lodge. Over recent weeks, I have received complaints from the general public regarding double parking / queuing by our parents awaiting to use the drop off. I have notified the PCSO who have promised to visit at drop off and pick up times. In the long term, if there is no improvement in the use of the drop off zone, we may have to close the area to protect our pupils and other road users. Please be considerate to other road users and follow the rules of our drop off zone.

Drive Through Drop-off Area Despite repeated reminders in regards to the correct use of the drop-off, we are still receiving numerous complaints from the local community about parents blocking the road whilst waiting to use the drop-off at the end of the school day. We would like to remind you of our rules for using the drop-off:  NO waiting anywhere within the yellow hatched area, if you cannot fit into the drive through you must go around the block.  NO waiting to turn left into the drive through, go around the block  Strictly no blocking the road, waiting to turn right, drive around the block  Parents with children in years 3 & 4 should not arrive in the drop off before 3.10  Parents with children in years 5 & 6 should not arrive in the drop off before 3.20  If you have children in both, come at the later time to allow them both to be ready  Pedestrians must not walk in or out through the vehicle entrance We will be monitoring usage over the coming weeks, and will review the situation at the end of the summer term. Unfortunately, if the situation does not improve, for the safety of our children, parents, and other road users, we may be forced to close the drop-off.

Road Safety Please be advised that there have been a few instances of motorists driving through red lights at the Lysons Avenue crossing. Please take extra care when crossing this section of road.

PE Kit Could we please remind you that for PE lessons, children need shorts, PE shirt, trainers and a spare pair of socks. If your child participates in after school clubs, then we suggest an additional set of sports kit is available to them. With the weather warming up, could we please remind you that children require a named water bottle daily, named sunhat and sun cream administered before school.

Office Hours We would like to remind you that the school office hours are 8.00am-4.00pm. However, if you need to report an absence, you can leave a voicemail before 8.00am or report it via our website. Please ensure that we are advised before 9.30am. For safeguarding purposes, there will be no access to the school (apart from breakfast and after school club) outside of these times.

Library News Don’t forget that the library is open after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays 3.15pm-3.45pm. Pre-school children are very welcome to join the library. If your child is struggling to come at lunchtime and you have a book that needs returning, please drop it in to the office. Well done to all of our Year 6 students who have been working really hard this week during the SATS. And good luck to our Year 2 students with their SATS next week.

Year 2 Cake sale Abigail, Olivia and Lucas from Year 2 held a cake sale to raise money for Walk the Walk breast cancer charity. They worked really hard and raised an amazing £165.90! Well done for all your hard work.

Class Photographs Monday 23rd May These will take place in the morning, and will be in the same group formats as previous years that are merged together to create the class photo.

Last week, we sent some information home in regards to possible changes to the breakfast club provisions and extended times. Please could you fill in the reply slip attached to the letter and return it to the office by Friday 27th May. Please note that all future editions of the newsletter will be sent on Mondays. If there are any urgent notifications for the following week, a separate email will be sent. Regards, S Meakin, Head Teacher Next Newsletter: 27th May

If you are coming to have some fun, then please sign up, any help from 30 minutes upwards would be really appreciated. Please fill in your name for a slot or 2, it will still leave you plenty of time to enjoy the fair. We need as many people as possible to volunteer to ensure we are able to run all our planned stalls. Any old Holly Lodge pupils are welcome to volunteer as well as friends and family!
