Fabric for your monkey’s face/head Arduino Adafruit Soundboard FX Button USB cable Scissors Cardboard Hot glue gun Needle and Thread Velcro stickers Wires and wire stripper/cutters Soldering tools Battery pack or external battery (like the ones you use to charge your phone)
Step 1: Sketch out what you want the monkey face to look like. First sketch it on paper then draw it directly on the fabric you want to cut out.
Step 2: Cut out the sketched monkey you drew! You can be creative, the face can look like whatever you like!
Step 3: Get an Adafruit sound board and a mini breadboard (the smaller the better) and two wires. 3a. Solder two wires to the button. Hot glue a piece of cardboard on the bottom for a larger surface area/support. 3b. Connect the ground of the soundboard to the negative of the breadboard. Connect one end of the speaker to the positive of the breadboard and one end to an arbitrary pin on the board.
Step 4: Plug the board to your computer by USB port. Name the wav files you want to play by: - if you want the wav files to play randomly by click of button: TNNRANDO(PIN#).wav - if you want a specific file to play: T (PIN#).wav - If you want files to play in sequential order TNNNEXT(PIN#). wav NN = the track number (01, 02 etc.) (PIN#) = the pin you connected the red wire to on the soundboard (09, 08 etc).
Note: You may need to compress your wav files because the soundboard can only fit 2GB of files. Download Audacity and change the ‘Project Rate’ to a lower number.
Step 5: Tape the breadboard to the monkey interior (first flip the monkey inside out) then connect the audio jack and the power supply Tip: Make sure the audio jack is pointing to the bottom of the monkey (the opening) so you can easily swap out and plug in a speaker vs headphones
Step 6: Flip it back and stuff it with cotton balls. Then line some kind of fastener (velcro works great) on the opening.
