ABOUT MONTECITO FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT The Montecito Fire Protection District is governed by the Fire Board of Directors. The District is organized under section 13800 to 13970 inclusive, of the Health and Safety Code of the State of California Fire Protection District Law of 1987. The District is located in Southern Santa Barbara County, adjacent to the Eastern border of the City of Santa Barbara. The Southern border is three miles at sea into the Pacific Ocean. The Northern border is shared with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service. The Eastern border is the Western border of the Carpinteria‐Summerland Fire Protection District. The District currently staffs two stations within Montecito. Station One, the Headquarters station houses a first out engine company as well as a paramedic rescue. Montecito Fire Protection District has its own dispatch center located at Station One. Also available from Station One is the Shift Battalion Chief and a Dispatcher. Currently, seven personnel are available 24 hours, 7 days a week out of Station One. Station Two houses three or four personnel 24 hours a day. Both stations have reserve equipment available for response as needed, including two (2) Type 3 Engines, one (1) Type 6 Engine, and a Medium USAR. All 24 hour personnel, including dispatchers, work a 56 hour 3 platoon shift. THE POSITION Under supervision of the Fire Chief, performs support functions of the District which include human resources, records management, public information, public education, public speaking, computer and network administration, and special district board administration; performs a variety of secretarial duties and administrative tasks for all District management positions; performs other duties as assigned; may handle material of a confidential nature. Ability to: Perform assigned duties independently with minimum supervision; identify problems and implement or recommend solutions; interpret and apply policies and procedures; use tact and discretion; deal effectively with officials, co‐workers and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and deal effectively with the public.

Minimum (18) years of age. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Shall meet and maintain the medical Standards of the Montecito Fire Protection District as evaluated by the District’s Medical Examiner. (Evaluation includes controlled substance screening) Applicant must pass an extensive background investigation and psychological evaluation prior to appointment. All employment offers are contingent upon establishing proof of individual’s right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act 1986. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, and meet insurability requirements of the Montecito Fire Protection District. Typing Certificate – 50 words per minute Must possess and maintain current Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)/ Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of appointment. Candidates who have submitted satisfactory Application Packets and most closely meet the desired training and experience will be invited to participate in an assessment exam. 5. ASSESSMENT EXAM: The candidates will be tested on their knowledge of the job duties and responsibilities, as well as desired training and experience. 6. Following the assessment exam, the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an oral interview. 7. ORAL INTERVIEW: The candidates will be interviewed by a panel to evaluate oral presentation skills, position knowledge, District knowledge, interpersonal skills, decision making and communications skills. 8. CHIEF’S INTERVIEW: The Fire Chief will personally interview the top 3‐5 candidates. 9. HIRING LIST: A hiring list will not be established as a result of this process; however, the District retains the right to utilize the results developed from this procedure for future openings. 10. PROTEST OR CHALLENGE: Any protest or challenge to the content of this promotional announcement and the examination process must be presented by the candidate in writing to the Fire Chief.
