Natasha TaylorSmith

As assistant solicitor for Montgomery County, Natasha provides counsel to several human services departments, including those serving older people and people with behavioral health issues or developmental disabilities. She formerly was a public defender and operated her own law firm. Natasha is from Cheltenham.
Todd Eisenberg
Todd is lead claims counsel for Peco Energy Company, handling a significant portion of the company's civil litigation. He formerly was solicitor for several townships and boroughs, and operated his own law practice, handling criminal, personal injury and family law matters. He was a staff attorney for the Philadelphia Public Defender's Office. Todd is from Lower Moreland.
Dan Clifford
A partner at the Weber Gallagher law firm, Dan is immediate past chair of the 1,300member Family Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and member of its LGBT Committee. He has advocated for improvements to the family court system and diversity in law practice. He is the 2014 recipient of the Pro Bono Award from the Pennsylvania Bar. Dan is from Springfield.

Chairman's Corner As I reflect on my two decades as your chairman, I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish by working together. As we head toward the May 19 primary, the Democratic Party of Montgomery County has never been stronger and never more united. If we maximize our effort, this will be the year we retain our majority on the Board of Commissioners, make a clean sweep of the row offices, and elect all three of our candidates for judge of the Common Pleas Court. We will also build on and widen our growing success at the township and borough level. The year 2011 was historic in Montgomery County, the first time in 150 years that Democrats won control of the courthouse. Four years later, we stand in an even better position. Josh Shapiro and Val Arkoosh are showing voters of every stripe that when Democrats get the opportunity to govern, they govern well. Good government is, indeed, good politics. We must make it loud and clear to voters across Montgomery County that, under Democratic leadership, county government has put its house in order. Nearly a decade of deficits have turned into surplus. Human services are being improved; roads and bridges are being rebuilt. Just in recent weeks, the Moody's investor service elevated our bond rating. All of this has taken place while holding the line on taxes. As a political organization, we have added muscle since 2011. Our voter plurality has grown from 36,000 registrants to almost 44,700, and we are gaining ground in every part of the county. Our recent drive to get the necessary voter signatures to put full slates on primary ballots across the county showed just how well organized we are. Josh and Val, to cite one success story, needed just 500 voter signatures, but they turned in 3,000. We can look far forward with great confidence to the November faceoff with the Republicans. But let us not forget the May Primary. There is much at stake. For one thing because of the rule that allows judicial candidates to crossfile we will have Republicans running for county judge on the Democratic ballot on May 19. We must work to elect our candidates on our ballot.
We cannot let any Republicans "bleed into" the Democratic ballot, as Joe Foster, our great vice chair, said at a recent Executive Committee meeting. The same is true in other races where crossfiling is permitted, such as for school board and judicial magistrate. I am confident that, with your continued dedication, we will reach our 2015 goals. Thank you for the privilege of joining you in this effort.

Q&A with District Attorney Candidate Kevin Steele
Kevin Steele, our candidate for District Attorney, is extraordinarily wellprepared for the job. As the current First Assistant District Attorney of Montgomery County, he works with 145 prosecutors, detectives and administrative personnel who handle 10,000 criminal cases per year. He leads the Homicide Unit in all of its investigations and personally supervises all nonconsensual wiretap investigations. In his two decades in the county D.A.'s office, Kevin has tried more than 100 trials and prosecuted more than 1,800 cases, including 40 homicide cases. On behalf of MCDC readers, we sat down with Kevin for a short Q&A.
Q. What has it meant for you to serve in the District Attorney's Office? A. This, for me, is a job where I can be an integral part of assuring justice is served and protecting the public. These are important missions that I strive for every day. I work with a group of people, a group of incredibly dedicated prosecutors and detectives, whose mission is to do the right thing. I am privileged to have been able to make a difference in a lot of people's lives. Q. Why do you want to be the elected District Attorney? A. I have worked in the office for over two decades and for five district attorneys at this point and have learned what it takes to do the job. This is an important position because you serve as the highest law enforcement officer in the county and I am the best person to lead the office forward.
