I am just not in a good mood today. Have you ever said that to yourself? Chances are you have. You might know exactly why you’re not in a good mood, but you’re not. Other times, you know exactly why you’re not. Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed because you had a bad dream or you didn’t get enough sleep. It’s perfectly natural. However, it’s important to understand that your mood will affect others. Sometimes, through no fault of your own, it can adversely affect them in ways that you didn’t intend. That’s why we created the Mood Meter. Think of the Mood Meter as a way to assess your current mood. Using a 1-10 scale, rate your mood. We don’t have an activity for this other than we feel it’s something you can start to practice throughout the day. Remember those thoughts that were racing through your head while you should have been working on that task for your boss? Were there feelings attached to them? Were you excited about working on your “next step” later in the day or were you upset about an argument you had with a coworker? And how do we practice presence when everything is rushing through our heads? We employ the 3second rule.
