Moon fact card The moon is a fascinating and mysterious place. Scientists and moon explorations have discovered lots about this lunar landscape since our curiosity with it began. Use the facts below to help children develop their knowledge and understanding of the moon. • Only 12 people have been on the moon. • There is 384,467 kilometres from the Earth to the moon. Which is the same as 34,235,708 London Routemaster buses end-to-end! • The moon has extreme day/night temperatures - about 107˚C during the day and -153˚C at night. • The moon is around 4.5 billion years old. • The moon orbits the earth every 27 days. • From Earth, we always see the same side of the moon; the other side is always hidden. • The moon dust is as fine as flour. • The moon moves 3.8cm away from the Earth every year.
