Morgan Park Academy: Project Week 2014 Becoming an Artist Each morning, we met at school and walked down the street to the Beverly Arts Center, where we divided into smaller groups to work with three professional artists on three different art forms. One project was a team effort; four groups of five students came together to design and build a “trash bag” garment for their thematic sculptural form. Trash bags were patterned, cut and fused together, then embellished with found objects, glitter, paint, and various other materials. The second artist introduced students to fused glass and clay/glass combination to individually express themselves. Each student was able to create at least one large glass decorative piece, a few pieces of jewelry, and a clay piece decorated with glass and fired. The third artist worked with the students to design and paint an outdoor installation piece for MPA. As a whole, they came up with the idea to have a Warrior Stallion spotted with images of what MPA, Project Week and Upper School life means to them. The completed project (now on temporary display in the Arts Center) will be installed outside the building soon. The week culminated with an art show at the BAC on Friday night. Parents and friends came to admire all of the artistic work on display.
