M ount W addington, N e w Route. D uring July D ave M ention and I climbed M ount W addington by a new variation. O ther party members were Tim Riordan, Jack Tackle and D ave Brunk. We approached the m ountain by the F ranklin Glacier, with Base Cam p on the Dias G lacier. Tim and Jack attem pted the south face. Rockfall and an oncoming storm forced retreat. U pon their return, D ave and I packed to climb. O ur route ascended a couloir, just left of the south face, to the northw est ridge. T hen via the Angel Glacier we climbed the false sum m it and de scended to a point where we traversed the m ain pinnacle along its n o rth ern base. The m ain pinnacle was climbed in storm via the southeast chimney. D eep snow w ith white-out conditions made our descent down the southeast ridge and over the col south of Spearm an Peak difficult.
