Any lost and found items left at the end of each week will be stored until the end of the season. We will contact owners of items we can identify if they are labeled.
CAMPER COMMUNICATION WITH STAFF OUTSIDE OF CAMP Staff members serve as trusted role models for campers. Because of the strength of the bonds that form at Camp, we believe that camper/staff communication and connections outside of camp have tremendous value. However, it is a Paradise Point policy that our staff members agree to our Social Media Use Policy. Part of this policy includes not adding campers as "Friends" on Facebook or adding them to any of their social media sites. Any outside-of-camp camper/staff communication (mail, phone, or face-to-face) must be healthy and appropriate.
PARENT/GUARDIAN COMMUNICATION Phone contact with parents/guardians is allowed only when approved by the Camp Director. Each person’s account contains contact information, as well as designates alternate contacts if the parents/guardians cannot be reached. The general camp practice is to contact parents when there is concern about a camper’s health and well-being or when a situation (homesickness) is not improving. All contact, successful and unsuccessful, is documented.

[email protected] THINGS TO BRING TO CAMP It is helpful to label all items and have your child pack his/her own bag for camp. We get more lost and found items when a child does not know what their parents packed for them. Do NOT pack medications (prescriptions or over-the-counter) OR money for the Camp Store in your luggage. They need to be checked in with Staff on arrival day. Paradise Point is not responsible for lost items. Please label everything!

DIETARY NEEDS It is our desire that all participants be able to experience Paradise Point without concern or anxiety of dietary restrictions. We are able to work with a variety of dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, gluten, dairy, egg, and nut allergies. In order to meet the needs of these participants, it is necessary to obtain as much information as possible prior to the arrival at camp. On the Camper Health Form you are able to list any special dietary needs. Please be as specific as possible regarding the exact nature and severity of any allergy or intolerance. Please note that we will make every effort to accommodate special requests. However, due to our open kitchen that handles the major allergens (gluten, wheat, dairy, nuts, etc...) we cannot guarantee that items will be completely "free" of any ingredient. While Paradise Point attempts to provide meals which meet these special needs as much as possible, it is the responsibility of the individual to avoid those foods that they are unable to eat. In some cases, we allow the participants to bring some of their own food items, which can then be prepared by our camp kitchen staff.
SENDING MAIL & EMAIL Campers love to receive mail and care packages when they are away from home. Please make sure to send packages early in the week to make sure your camper receives them while they are at camp. Packages or letters that arrive after your camper has departed will be returned to sender. Parents may send packages containing food, however there is no gum allowed on camp. All food from packages is stored in Brown Bear (Camp Store) and campers are allowed to get their packages during waterfront each day. Please limit the amount of food in each package due to limited storage space in Brown Bear. Direct correspondence to: MAIL: Camper’s Name C/O Paradise Point Camp P.O. Box 764 McCall, ID 83638

RECEIVING MAIL FROM CAMP Each day during Toes Up (rest hour) campers are encouraged to write letters home to their families. Many times the camper knows the address, but does not know how to properly address an envelope. Counseling staff does their best to catch the mistakes before the envelopes get in the mail, however the best way to ensure that you receive a letter from your camper is to send them to camp prepared with paper and pre-addressed/stamped envelopes! It may be that mail from your camper is not so cheerful. Remember that campers sometimes write home during homesick moments, or that the act of writing triggers homesickness. In most instances, by the time you receive the letter, your camper is well-adjusted to camp and having a wonderful time. If you are concerned about a letter you receive from your camper while they are at camp, please call the Camp Director.

[email protected] HOMESICKNESS Going away to camp for a week or more can be a challenging experience for many children. Short-term separation from parents and learning independence are both important parts of growing up even though it may not always be easy. Many children have some difficulty coping with the changes that come with spending a week away from home. This anxiety is perfectly normal and happens on occasion. While your child is at camp, we do not allow campers to call home directly. Often, when a homesick child speaks to someone from home, their homesickness is only made worse. Instead, we encourage letter-writing both to and from the family. We spend a lot of time training camp staff on how to deal with homesickness, but parents can help prevent homesickness by doing some simple things prior to their camper’s stay at camp. Avoid statements such as, “If you don’t like camp, you can come home.” Children who are experiencing difficulties adjusting to camp will compound the problem by not giving it a fair chance. Often they will close their minds to adapting to camp, and focus immediately on going home. Process any recent stressful events: Recent deaths of people close to campers or parents who are divorcing can cause extreme stress on a child at camp. Talk to them about it and notify the camp to make the staff aware. Keep letters short and positive: Parents should avoid statements like, “I’m going to miss you terribly.” Do not tell them how much you wish they were home or about the death of their favorite pet. Camp will be a terrific experience, so be careful not to make them feel badly about going away. Talk about homesickness: Homesickness is natural and certain feelings of missing home, parents, pets, or friends are normal. Once this is understood, your child may accept homesick feelings with less anxiety.
