Your application for tryouts is due August 3rd, 2017. Your MRHS Athletic Clearance (Physical) Packet is due by August 2nd, 2017 to the Athletic Office at MRHS.
MRHS Tryout Checklist Use this list to ensure that you have completed all of the necessary paperwork before tryouts begin. MRHS Pom Tryouts: What to Expect & Things to Know All documents on the tryout checklist need to be completed and turned in for everyone trying out. Late packets will not be accepted. Exceptions: Injuries and or extenuating circumstances will be at the discretion of the coaches. Pom clinics will be August 3rd & 4th starting at 3:00 pm and finishing by 6:00 pm on August 3rd. There will be an optional clinic/practice on August 4th from 9-11am. We will be working in the MRHS Dance Room. Please make sure to secure reliable, on-time transportation for all of these dates. ONLY accepting tryout packets the first day of clinics in the DANCE ROOM at 3 pm. Pom tryouts are August 4th, 2017 and will start on-time at 3:00 pm in the MRHS dance room. We will be done once everyone has had the opportunity to perform. The tryout order is random and participants will be allowed to leave once the entire tryout is over. Please make sure to secure reliable, on-time transportation. Clinic Attire: MUST FOLLOW MRHS Dress Code and AIA Rules and Regulations 1. Wear appropriate shoes and socks— jazz shoes for pom. Bare feet are not acceptable! 2. Hair pulled back in a pony tail 3. NO: jewelry (facial or body), long natural nails, artificial nails, distracting make-up or hair style, jeans, or any apparel from previous cheer/dance/pom teams—including Mountain Ridge Tryout Attire: Black t-shirt or tank (no cami tanks, or visible bra straps showing) and black shorts. Black Spandex MUST be worn under loose shorts. Wearing only Spandex IS allowed. Preliminary cuts may be made based on the number of participants Please be aware that basic turns and leap skills are required for pom. There will be a 2017-2018 Varsity Competitive Pom Team, Varsity Non-Competitive Football Pom Team & Varsity Non-Competitive Basketball Pom Team. Non-Comp members have the option of participating in Pom/Football or Pom/Basketball or Both. The Competitive Team will participate in events for the Football/Basketball season at the discretion of the coach. You may not participate (compete/practice) on both a high school team and an All-Star team during the MRHS Pom Season. The season ends after the last performance opportunity for an individual’s team. Pom is a very expensive sport. Individual fees run at about $3200 per competitive varsity pom member, and & approximately $1,800 per varsity non-comp participant. Please understand this is an estimate. Participants must be debt-free from any previous spiritline seasons—if the debt has been paid you will need to bring in proof of payment with this tryout packet. All fundraising activities are sponsored through the MRHS Spiritline Booster Club or MRHS. The competition team will be put together during tryouts (not including alternates). The exact number of participants is dependent on the needs of the program and the skill set of the participants. To protect the integrity of the tryout and selection process, tryouts and tryout clinics may not be filmed by any interested parties and are closed to the public. At any time a coach or coaching staff may add and/or remove any member from the Pom Competition &/or Pom NonCompetition team(s) for any reason pertaining to performance, effort, skill, attitude, grades, behavior, absences, tardies, inappropriate social media, inappropriate texting, a violation of the code of conduct or a violation of district and/or school rules or policies.

Mountain Ridge Spiritline Financial Commitment 2017-2018 Season In order to get our uniforms ordered as quickly as possible, we will need for all incoming Freshmen who make the Pom Team to make their first payment of $300 by Monday, August 7th. Uniform ($175) Poms ($25) Athletic Fee ($100) Payments should be made to the MRHS Bookstore
Please understand that spiritline is an expensive sport and that payments will be expected to be made on time in order to cover costs for camp, shoes, poms, practice attire, bows, etc. The above payments include all regular season payments. A detailed payment schedule will be distributed and reviewed at the parent meeting. Please see the “Need to Know” page of the tryout packet for an estimate of dues.
Mountain Ridge High School Pom Application 2017-2018 Season Changes to Tryout Procedure All students will have the option to tryout for Competition Pom or NonCompetition Pom. Those who do not make, or do not choose to tryout for the Competition Pom team will have the choice to be considered for the following Non-Competition Pom team(s): 1. Football non-competition Pom team 2. Basketball non-competition Pom team 3. Both Football & Basketball non-competition Pom teams *note: the competition Pom team’s season is from June to March *note: at any time a coach or coaching staff may add and/or remove any member from the Pom Competition &/or Pom Non-Competition team(s) for any reason pertaining to performance, effort, skill, attitude, grades, behavior, absences, tardies, inappropriate social media, inappropriate texting, a violation of the code of conduct or a violation of district and/or school rules or policies. If you participated on a spiritline team at another high school during the 2016-2017 season you may be asked to complete additional paperwork. Mountain Ridge High School “SOCIAL MEDIA CONTRACT” Participation in interscholastic athletics is a privilege. Students wishing to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them by Mountain Ridge High School must show a commitment to the athletic program by adhering to the “Social Media Rule” established by the coaches. The privilege of being a member of Pom at Mountain Ridge High School requires that each athlete adhere to a number of conditions that enhance their commitment to her school and community, family, coaches, and herself. 1) Any Pom Team member posting rude, inappropriate, distasteful images or comments on any type of social media forum are subject to disciplinary actions, such as suspension, and/or removal from the team. 2) Any Pom Team member that is reposting images or comments containing rude, inappropriate or distasteful content on any type of social media are subject to disciplinary actions such as suspension, and/or removal from the team. The coaches have the final decision regarding what is deemed appropriate/inappropriate. Consequences are up to the coaches discretion. As members of this spirit line, the highest expectations are given to each member of the team.
