Mr. George Bailey Thompson George Bailey Thompson was born December 25, 1932 to the late L.H. and Lenora (Arnold) Thompson, one of 14 children. As a young adult he was a member of Springfield Baptist Church of Elberton, GA. At an early age he married Minnie Virginia Harris and moved his membership to White’s Chapel C.M.E. Church. George loved his church family, and was a hard worker at White’s Chapel. Over the years he served as Chairman of the Steward Board, he was a member of the Trustee Board and the Senior Choir, where he enjoyed signing until his health failed. In his early years he worked for the Seaboard Railroad and in the granite industry. He was later employed by Granite City Bank as a custodian and retired from the Elberton United Methodist Church. He was well known in the community and surrounding areas as a person with a big heart and a willingness to help anyone he could. For years he was an active member of the Elberton Rescue Unit and was one of the founding members of the Elegant Gents. A lover of planting and watching vegetables, flowers and trees grow...he could always be found in his garden and yard tending to vegetables. He loved giving vegetables to anyone who wanted some. His favorite tree was the dogwood and today in his yard there blooms several beautiful white and pink trees that he loved so much. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Minnie Virginia (Harris) Thompson, daughter - Phyllis Sharon Crusoe; his surviving brother - Walter (Doris) Thompson; grandson - Melvin Crew; granddaughter - Heather Quinn; special friends: Cidell (Sid) Palmer and Tim Long; a brother-in-law Roosevelt Harris, his beloved cat ”Mister”; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God’s Garden

Celebration of Life for

God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
