This year I made a site visit to Mukti on 15th August, 2012. There was an elaborate Independence Day celebration planned for the morning part of the day. In the afternoon we sat down to talk about the issues faced by Mukti. The Secretary pointed out that they require resources very quickly to buy the plots of land to build Mukti’s own coaching center, as even though the villages are quite remote, there is much demand for land and prices vary quite a lot depending on the location of the plot. They would require at least 10 bigha for each of the center. Also another demand was made with regard to computer training. The plan is to buy a few old computers and have them installed in a facility in a nearby town (since the villages don’t have electricity) and a trainer would be hired to impart basic computer skills on the school going kids (preferably those who are into Higher Secondary). The response about the Sikshamitra Teacher Training program was very positive from the Mukti coaching center teachers. They said they received new ideas about how to explain concepts in Mathematics and learned better teaching techniques for English. I also paid a visit to the house of the entrepreneur in charge of the Solar Lanterns. He reported satisfaction with regard to the functioning of the lanterns and people’s handling of them.
