FOSTERING CRITICAL INFORMATION LITERACY IN THE AGE OF “FAKE NEWS” 2-3:30 p.m. | Tuesday, April 11 Mulva Library, Room 315
For questions or additional information, please contact:
The recent attention given to “fake news” has raised questions about whether or not students are adequately prepared to negotiate the increasing complexities of the information ecosystem. In this workshop, we will explore an approach to information literacy that (regardless of discipline) moves beyond research skills to focus on helping students think critically and creatively about their roles in both using and producing information. We will begin with an introduction to critical information literacy, and then consider how this approach might invigorate the work we are already doing in the classroom.

Faculty will have hands-on time to experiment with (re)designing an assignment, so all participants should plan to play with an example of an assignment or activity that makes use of sources. To assist with planning, please register at http://bit.ly/WACIL by April 4.
